In a rather astonishing development, sources close to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have reported that a series between India and Bangladesh would be named after former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. With the Indians already involved in the Border-Gavaskar, Anthony-D’mello trophy and such others, the Durjoy-Ganguly series would certainly be a welcome addition.

In recent times, the Indians have been involved in the Gandhi-Mandela series as well. The series between the two South Asian neighbors will involve Mushfiqur Rahim’s Bangladesh face Virat Kohli’s men in blue in a one-off Test match later this year, marking the first ever bilateral series for the Tigers on Indian soil. Though the future of the series is still uncertain, words are doing the round that it may take place in September.

The reason for the name, ‘Durjoy-Ganguly’ series is also quite clear. While Sourav Ganguly was the first ever Indian skipper to instill a winning momentum for the Indian cricket team, Naimur Rahman Durjoy was the home team captain while the visitors India were led by the Prince of Kolkata Sourav Ganguly. The match also marked a historic achievement for Bangladesh as they were granted Test match status for the first time by the ICC prior to that match. the match was held at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Khulna.

Further reports also suggest that the venue chosen would be the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This also happens to be the home ground of Sourav Ganguly and it couldn’t be a better venue given the fact that the series is being hosted in the honor of Ganguly himself. It is also understood that the BCCI are keen on calling the series the ‘Durjoy-Ganguly’ series.

Earlier it was also heard that a number of ODI and T20I matches too would be added in the series alongside the solitary Test match.
