Team India made the Bangladeshis toil hard in the visiting team’s first ever day in Test cricket on India soil as the hosts posted 356 runs for the loss of 3 wickets after electing to bat first at Hyderabad. Despite losing KL Rahul in the very first over, Murali Vijay-Cheteshwar Pujara pair batted out for almost half the day together and solidified the innings.

Though Pujara missed a century as he was dismissed on 83, skipper Virat Kohli brought up his century batting along with Ajinkya Rahane towards the end of the day after Murali Vijay struck his 2nd hundred at the venue. Here we look at all the milestones and stats recorded during the day’s play.

0 – Number of times Mushfiqur Rahim and Virat Kohli played with the same XI in consecutive Test matches in their captaincy career. Rahim has captained Bangladesh in 28 Tests while Kohli has led India in 23 games.

0 – Number of Indian captains scored who 1000 Test runs in a season before Kohli. At the end of day 1, Kohli has 1075 runs in 2016/17 Tests and all in India.

3 – Number of times including this game India lost its first wicket in first over of a home Test since 1999. Other two were vs Sri Lanka in 2005 at Delhi and vs England in 2012 at Mumbai. Gautam Gambhir was the batsman in the previous two cases.

4 – Karun Nair is only the 4th player to not make it to the XI after scoring a triple century in Tests. Other three are: Andy Sandham, Len Hutton and Inzamam-ul-Haq.

4 – Number of centuries Virat Kohli has scored in 2016/17 season in Tests, the joint most by any Indian captain in a season. Sunil Gavaskar scored 4 centuries in 1978/79 season.

5 – Number of century stands Vijay-Pujara pair has between them in 2016/17 season, the joint 2nd most by any pair. Hayden and Ponting had 7 century stands in 2005/06 season. Vijay-Pujara pair is also the first to have 5 century stands in a home season in the longer format.

7 – Number of Test sides Virat Kohli has played against. He has scored centuries against all the teams. He is yet to play a Test against Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

8 – Murali Vijay missed out on becoming the first player to convert their first 9 Test centuries to 125+ scores. Vijay and Lara are the only players to convert their first 8 centuries in Tests to 125+ scores.

9 – Centuries Virat Kohli has scored in Test cricket as captain, the joint 2nd most for an Indian captain. Gavaskar has 11 centuries while Mohammad Azharuddin also scored 9 tons as captain.

548 – Partnership runs between Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara in Tests at RGICS, Hyderabad. This was their the 2nd innings as a pair at this venue. They are already the 7th Indian pair to score 500 runs in Tests at a venue.

1075 – Runs scored by Virat Kohli in 2016/17 season at home in Test cricket, the most runs by a captain in Tests in a home season. Previous highest is 1058 by Graham Gooch in 1990.

1605 – Runs scored in first-class cricket in 2016/17 season by Cheteshwar Pujara, in India. He broke Chandu Borde’s record of (1604 runs in 1964/65) more runs in an Indian first-class season.
