Team India pulled off one of the greatest chases in ODI history as they end victorious in a 351-run chase on the back of Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav’s tons after being reduced to a mere 63/4. Electing to bowl, India over hundred runs in the last 8 overs as England finished with 350/7 with Jason Roy, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes all chipping in with fifties.

Chasing a mammoth total, India lost the likes of Shikhar Dhawan,  KL Rahul, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni by 12th over with just 63 on board. But a spirited stand between Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav kept India’s hopes alive. Even after both centurions got out, Hardik Pandya ensured India’s victory with a crucial unbeaten 40. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

2 – Number of ODI centuries Kedar Jadhav has scored while batting at No.6. He is the first Indian and 5th player to score two ODI tons at No.6 Dhoni scored 3 tons while batting at No.6 or lower. Jadhav is only next to Dhoni with more than one ODI ton at No.6 or lower spot.

3 – Number of times India have successfully chased down 350+ targets in ODIs, the most times by any team. South Africa did twice while England did once.

3 – For the 3rd consecutive time in ODIs, Ravichandran Ashwin has conceded over 60 runs. This was Ashwin’s 103rd ODI. In his first 100 ODIs, he never conceded 60+ runs in consecutive games.

5 – Number of double century stands Virat Kohli has been part of in ODIs while chasing, joint most by anyone. Upal Tharanga has been a part of 5 double century stands while chasing in ODIs.

7 – This is the 7th instance of an Indian taking 5-fer and not making being included in the XI of the following ODI. Amit Mishra took 5-wicket haul vs New Zealand in India’s last ODI. In fact, Mishra failed to make it to the XI in the following ODI on both occasions when he took a five-wicket haul. He missed out vs Australia in 2013 at this very ground after taking five wickets vs Zimbabwe.

7 – Number of 350+ scores England have recorded in ODIs since 2015 World Cup. Prior to it, they had only two such scores in this format.

9 – Number of double century stands Virat Kohli has been a part of in ODIs, joint most by any batsman. Next most is 7 by Tharanga and Ponting.

15 – Number of centuries Virat Kohli now has in successful ODI run-chases the most by any player. He went past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 14 hundreds.

17 – Number of centuries Virat now has scored while chasing in ODIs, the joint most by any player. He equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 17 hundreds in chases.

29 – Balls taken by Kedar Jadhav for his fifty in this game, the joint 2nd fastest fifty in ODIs by an India against England. Fastest is by MS Dhoni in 26 balls in 2011.

33 – Balls taken by Ben Stokes for his fifty in this game. This is the 2nd fastest fifty by an England player in ODIs vs India. Fastest is by Chris Old in 28 balls in 1975.

65 – Balls taken by Kedar Jadhav for his century. This is the 6th fastest ODI century by an Indian.

200 – Kohli-Kedar pair’s stand of 200 is the 2nd highest for India in ODIs for the 5th or lower wicket. Azharuddin-Jadeja had a 223-run stand in 1997 for the 5th wicket vs Sri Lanka. Overall, this is the 7th stand of 200+ in ODIs after the fall of 4th wicket.

293 – Runs scored by India after losing their 4th wicket, the 2nd most runs by any team in an ODI. New Zealand scored 309 vs Australia in 2007 at Hamilton. Previous highest for India was 256 runs.

350/7 – England’s total of 350/7 is their highest ODI score against India overhauling their 338/9 at Bangalore in 2011 World Cup.

351 – India’s successful chase of 351 is the joint 4th highest in ODI cricket for any team and the joint 2nd highest for India.

356/7 – India’s total of 356/7 is the highest ODI total for any team losing their first 4 wickets for as low as 63 runs. Previous highest was New Zealand’s 350/9 vs Australia in 2007 which was also in a chase.

2005 – Last time Indian openers aggregated less than 10 runs in a home ODI was in 2005 at Hyderabad against South Africa. Their openers collectively scored 3 runs in that game.

2009 – Last time India won their first ODI of a calendar year was in 2009. Since then they lost their first ODI of every year till 2017.
