Rohit Sharma tore into the England bowling attack on the first Day of the second Test at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. There were some question marks that were raised about his ability with the willow in Test match cricket, and Rohit has responded to his critics in style.

The Hitman scored a blazing century in the bright sunshine at Chennai, and at the time of writing is still taking apart the England bowlers, unbeaten on 150. This is a hundred that Rohit will remember for a long time, for it is an innings where he was in complete control of the proceedings and was positive right from the outset.

The ‘Hitman’ got to three figures with a couple off Moeen Ali, and the entire stadium erupted to cheer for the opener. What was also heartening to see was the way Virat Kohli celebrated Rohit’s century. The Indian skipper was seen clapping his hands and beaming with joy, and even team mate Cheteshwar Pujara can be seen smiling in the video as well. Ajinkya Rahane, was out in the middle when Rohit got to three figures and gave the Hitman a congratulatory hug. And surely, everything is fine within the Indian team camp. You can see the video of the same below.

Rohit Sharma puts India on Top

As far as the match is concerned, the Indian side is in the driver’s seat. After India lost 3 quick wickets in the form of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, the duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma have put on a scintillating partnership to level up India’s batting show.

As far as the England bowlers are concerned, Olly Stone, Jack Leach and Moeen Ali scalped a wicket each. While Stone trapped Gill in front of the stumps for a duck, Leach was the man who dismissed Pujara. Moeen Ali cleaned up Virat Kohli with a delivery that spun in sharply.

The Indian side is desperately in need of a win here, as they were comprehensively beaten by the visitors in the first Test at the same venue. And, looking at the way Rohit and Rahane have piled on the misery on the England bowlers, it looks as if the hosts have come back with a bang.
