After suffering a clean sweep in the ODI series, West Indies now face Rohit Sharma‘s team India in the three-match T20I series, starting from February 16, 2022. All three matches will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata with two other games slated on February 18 and February 20. Team India’s last international T20 was also at the same venue where they defeated New Zealand in November last year. On the other hand, West Indies won their last T20I series against England at home in January this year.
Talking about the ODI series, nothing went right for the Caribbean side. They lost their regular skipper Kieron Pollard due to an injury after the first match as Nicholas Pooran took over the charge in the last two ODIs. The team suffered severely in the batting department and that has been an area of concern for some time now. The hosts enjoyed all the three ODI contests as the Men in Maroon didn’t even put a fight in any of the games.
Notably, both sides failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2021 with West Indies enduring a disastrous campaign in which they lost four out of the five matches. But with the next T20 World Cup hardly eight months away, which will be hosted by Australia in October 2022, both teams would like to kick start their preparations for the mega event from this series onwards. The teams will be looking to try out all the necessary combinations keeping the bigger picture in mind.
