India Women look set to get busy in the near future. They are currently gearing up for an all-format tour to England where they will also be playing their first Test match in seven years apart from three ODIs and as many T20Is. Later in September, the team is scheduled to tour Australia as well to compensate for a postponed series in January this year due to COVID-19.

Interestingly, India and Australia will also be facing in the Tests for the first time in Tests since 2006. The two teams will play one Test on the tour and now the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that it will be a day-night Test and will be played with Pink ball.

He took to his Twitter handle to reveal the news on Thursday morning. “Taking forward our commitment towards women’s cricket, I am extremely pleased to announce that Team India @BCCIWomen will play in their first-ever pink ball day-night Test later this year in Australia,” his tweet read.

However, the schedule of the entire tour is not confirmed yet. Rather Cricket Australia (CA) and BCCI, until this update from Jay Shah, had not officially announced the tour either. It was Australia pacer Megan Schutt who informed while speaking in a podcast recently that they are due to play India during the home season.

As far as the head to head record between India and Australia in Tests are concerned, the latter side has won four out of nine matches with the other five ending in a draw. India Women are yet to register a win over Australia in the longest format and the current team will be keen on creating history later this year.

Indian players in quarantine in Mumbai

Meanwhile, the Indian players selected for England tour have started their quarantine in Mumbai. Both India Men and Women are scheduled to leave for UK on June 2 for their respective all-format series. The BCCI arranged a charter flight for the players to help them reach Mumbai where they will be quarantined for 14 days and also be tested regularly for COVID-19.

India Women’s England tour is set to commence on June 16 with a four-day Test match followed by three ODIs and as many T20Is.
