India women's team skipper Mithali Raj's biopic announced

Mithali Raj’s name is arguably the most revered one in the Indian Women’s cricket. She has been an integral part of the Indian team for over a decade. Mithali has been inspiring the youngsters in the country and has been instrumental in taking the women’s cricket to new heights in the country. Now, her success story is all set to be portrayed on the silver screen.

The Viacom18 Motion Pictures, as per reports has announced the biopic of the charismatic Indian skipper and is to roll out on the screens soon. The rights for the Bollywood movie have been bagged by the same studio that has already tasted a lot of success with the movies like Queen, Mary Kom, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

In the recent times, the trend has been such the biopics of sportspersons have garnered huge successes at the box office. The most recent ones in the list have been MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Sachin: A Billion Dreams. Raj herself had confirmed this news a few days ago.

Extremely happy

“I am extremely happy with this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career,” Mithali Raj had quoted.

Meanwhile, Viacom18 is proud to be associated with the veteran Indian batter. Mithali is a recipient of Arjuna Award and Padmashri. She is the only woman cricketer to have scored in excess of 6000 runs in ODIs. She led the Indian team to the finale of World Cup on two occasions – in 2005 and in 2017.

“Viacom18 Motion Pictures has always been the pioneer in showcasing content with the portrayal of strong women characters right from ‘Queen’ to ‘Kahaani’ to ‘Mary Kom’,” quoted Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

It was Medallin Sports that acted as the facilitator between Mithali and the Viacom18. The Director of the firm remarked that the India Women skipper has been a thorough inspiration for many in the country.

“Mithali remains to be an inspiration for multitudes for many years now and her story on the silver screen will keep motivating generations,” mentioned Varun Chopra who is the Director of the Medallin Sports.
