Team India started their Champions Trophy 2017 encounter with a bang as they got the better of arch-rivals Pakistan by 124 runs to rule the group they are in by sitting right at the top. It was a complete team performance which proved India a very strong contender to lift the trophy. But due to frequent rains in the country, the team has had to cancel a couple of practice sessions. But they do not mind that, as long it gives them the time to eat out together.

The team set out for lunch yesterday when the practice session was called off, reported Mid Day. Unlike in the past, when Indian cricketers travelling abroad, especially the vegetarians, would be in the lookout for Indian restaurants, which would offer them a taste of home, the bunch of cricketers yesterday enjoyed themselves at a sushi restaurant. One former India cricketer, though explained a differed thought.

“See, you don’t want a family who has just moved to England. They won’t be missing home much and you probably won’t get home-style food. You also don’t want a family that has been here for three decades. Then they would have forgotten how to cook food like we do. The best case is someone who has been here about 10 years,” he said.

A team that eats together, stays together

But for the current Indian team, led by Virat Kohli, however, have no such longings. After sushi, they enjoyed grilled chicken wth peri peri sauce at Nando’s. India next play a relatively young Sri Lankan side tomorrow at The Oval. They will be high on confidence after humiliating Pakistan and a win will likely ensure them a berth in the semi-finals. India has an edge over the Islanders, who will be missing the services of an injured Angelo Mathews and suspended Upul Tharanga.
