The 12th edition of the Indian T20 league has got off to a promising start with some high scoring games. From Andre Russell’s match-winning knock for Kolkata to Rishabh Pant’s flamboyant half-century and David Warner’s royal return to cricket, the tournament has already given us exciting glimpses.

The sixth match of the season will be played between Kolkata and Punjab, both of which have won their first games. With firepower in both the teams, the contest looks promising on paper. Let us do a bit of analysis for both teams before picking the Fantain XI for the 6th game of the Indian T20 league.

Venue – Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Team news –

Kolkata

It is unlikely that Kolkata will make any changes to their playing XI after the win over Hyderabad. Lockie Ferguson and Sunil Narine did not have a good outing with the ball in the previous game, but Narine cannot be benched due to his ability to bat and Ferguson will not be dropped on the basis of a single performance.

Likely playing XI – Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine, Prasidh Krishna, Lockie Ferguson, Kuldeep Yadav.

Punjab

The highest score at the Eden Gardens in the T20 league was registered by Punjab – 204 runs in 18 overs. The pitch sees a lot of runs being scored and if Chris Gayle can continue his form from the first game, the Kolkata stadium can witness a storm of sixes.

Likely playing XI – Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul (WK), Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Mandeep Singh, Ravi Ashwin(C), Sam Curran, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Andrew Tye, Ankit Rajpoot, Mohammed Shami.

Hot picks

Andre Russell

If not for Andre Russell’s mad hitting, Kolkata would have lost the Sunday game to Hyderabad. The all-rounder fired on all cylinders as he scored an18-ball 49 to take his team home amidst massive require run-rate.

Chris Gayle

Apart from being in exceptional form, what makes Gayle dangerous at Eden Gardens is his personal record there. The swashbuckling batsman has most number of Indian T20 league runs at Eden than at other venues – 544 runs from 12 innings. Considering how the pitch there played in the previous game, an in-form Gayle alone can pile up more than 100 runs and should be right up there on your Fantain XI.

Ravichandran Ashwin

The spin spearhead’s personal record against Kolkata makes him a top man on Fantain XI. Ashwin has claimed 19 wickets against Kolkata; the joint 2nd most by any bowler against the Dinesh Karthik led team. . The off-spinner bagged those 19 wickets from 16 matches.

Sunil Narine

Even though Sunil Narine leaked lots of runs in the game from Sunday, he is still a crucial bowler on spin-friendly wickets. He needs one more wicket to become the first player to claim 50 wickets in T20 cricket at the Eden Gardens. Although he injured his finger while fielding against Hyderabad, and consequently did not open the innings for Kolkata, he is expected to be fit for the Wednesday game.

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn was expected to replicate David Warner’s performance in the game against Hyderabad, but the Australian failed to live up to expectations. However, he is one of the greatest hitters of the ball and cannot be ruled out of your Fantain XI irrespective of his performances. On his day, Lynn can win games single-handedly.
