Indore hopes to host Test match in 2016

Authorities of the Holkar stadium in Indore are hoping to host a five-day match in the city following BCCI’s decision to grant Test status to the venue.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) accorded Test status to Indore’s Holkar Stadium during its 86th Annual General Meeting in November.

The officials feel that they hope to host at least one Test matches in upcoming days. According to the schedule, there are nine Test matches which are scheduled to be played in India.

“In the next six months, nine international test matches will be played in the country. We are hopeful that at least we will get an opportunity to host one of it,” Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) CEO, Rohit Pandit said.

He said the facilities at the stadium, having capacity to accommodate 27,000 fans, are being enhanced for players.

BCCI has shown very keen interest in taking Test cricket to the lesser known venues with an intention of treating the cricket fans in those regions with some top-class cricket action.

Besides Indore, BCCI also named five more Test venues including – Pune, Ranchi, Visakhapatnam, Dharamsala and Rajkot. With six more Test venues, a total number of Test venues in the country rose to 15 as nine already existing one.

So far, Holkar Stadium which is happy hunting ground for Team India, hosting ODIs since 2006. Till date four ODIs and two IPL Twenty20 matches have been played at the venue. Team India scored wins in all four ODI, including two against England and one each against West Indies and South Africa.
