IPL 10: Flight delay kept Rahul Dravid away from the ceremony

The Indian Premier League season is well underway as the inaugural match of the 10^th edition is about to run its course. The opening ceremony saw a lot of fireworks as there were various Bollywood celebrities flaunting their moves and welcoming the fans to this fantastic festival of cricket.

This year’s Indian Premier League is going to be a mega event as there are going to be eight opening ceremonies on eight different occasions. To be specific, each team will have their own opening ceremony at their own home ground.

However, today’s ceremony meant a lot more to the Indian fans. There were a lot of other events but the stand out was the felicitation ceremony of the cricket greats of India. The big four, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly were felicitated at the ceremony for their excellent careers and invaluable contributions to the Indian cricket.

The Indian fans all over the country and the cricket fans all around the world were now wondering, why is not Rahul Dravid there for the felicitation? Well, he was invited but the Indian legend could not make it in time. Rahul, who is the mentor of the Delhi Daredevils, was in Delhi when he got the call and was informed about the ceremony.

Delhi, anyhow, was struck by a storm and all the flights from Delhi got delayed. The Indian wall was stuck at the airport in Delhi and could not make it in time. This was revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) via an official statement.

Rajiv Shukla, the Chairman of the IPL then cleared the air about the same. He said that the decision to felicitate the five legends was taken at the GC meeting. Shukla said, “The decision was taken at the GC meeting today that five legends of Indian cricket — Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag will be felicitated during the opening ceremony in Hyderabad on April 5.”
