The 10th season of the IPL is underway and the fans were not disappointed by what they had witnessed. The T20 season is back and what a way to raise the curtains. The Sunrisers Hyderabad were put into bat by the stand-in skipper Shane Watson. It was a Dhawan, Yuvraj and Henriques show ably supported by cameos from Hooda and Cutting. The home team piled on as a many as 207 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

The Royal Challengers threatened to chase their total down with overs to spare after Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle made the most of the powerplay. They were at par with, if not ahead, of the asking run rate at all times until the 13th over. The Royal Challengers kept on losing wickets at regular intervals until they were dismissed for 172 runs. In the end, the Sunrisers won by a comfortable margin of 35 runs.

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh was awarded the man of the match award for his explosive 27-ball 62, which consisted of 7 fours and 3 sixes. Yuvi was glad that his confidence was back after a successful comeback into the Indian side which did him wonders. He also emphasized on his efforts to tackle against the short ball and the slower.

Every IPL you’ve got to bring something new (talking about the hairdo). Gabbar (Dhawan) is very famous in Hyderabad so I’ll take the second place. Confidence, you know. When you make a comeback and play well, you get the confidence and frees the mind. Just watching the ball and play accordingly. I’ve been working a lot more on my batting. I’ve been working on the short ball and the slower ball and have been trying to hit in the V. I was lucky today, got dropped. But I’ve been playing the short ball well. As you get older, you’ve got to train harder.

David Warner

David Warner was elated after the performance of his team today. He singled out the efforts of Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan and newcomer Rashid Khan. He cited out the fact that the Afghan was overwhelmed after experiencing the atmosphere of the IPL. But being the skipper, he backed the young man and he delivered the goods.

It was fantastic. The guys backed themselves. We knew it was going to be a good wicket. We tried to be positive in the first six. I think the stats went into my head. That’s the way the game goes. You’re always mindful with a power packed batting line-up like that. Yuvi was superb. Whatever he’s been doing in the season he’s had has been fantastic. Dhawan’s been working hard. He spoke to me the other day saying he’s in good touch. What a fantastic prospect (Rashid Khan). On the world stage, in the IPL environment, fantastic stuff from him. He was a little nervous but I told him to back himself.

Shane Watson

Shane Watson, who had a nightmare with the bowl, stated the that the bowling unit did not click and the batting efforts suffered due to the absence of a big partnership. The Australian remained optimistic about the upcoming matches and was willing to learn from his mistakes.

I think we were slightly off with the ball and we did not get one big partnership while batting. We have got a lot of different combinations to last year. We are just running our combinations. I found a day or so ago (about leading the side). Hopefully I can lead the team better next time. I was confident enough (of chasing) as the pitch was good and especially with the firepower in our top six.
