Once again Kolkata Knight Riders excelled in a chase to bag a win in their first game of the season at the home ground Eden Gardens with an 8-wicket trashing of Kings XI Punjab. First, it was Umesh Yadav’s 4-wicket haul which stopped KXIP to go away with a certain big total and later it was their captain Gautam Gambhir who steered the chase with a class filled innings. Sunil Narine played a key role in the win with an economical 4-over spell and added some big-hitting with the bat opening the innings.

170/9 – Kings XI Punjab’s total of 170/9 is the highest in IPL without any player scoring 30 or more. Miller and Vohra top scored with 28 runs for KXIP. Previous highest total in IPL without a 30+ score was 160/7 by SRH vs KKR in 2014 at the same venue.
