After losing to the Delhi Daredevils at their home ground, the Rising Pune Supergiant are all set to play the Gujarat Lions on Friday at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

The pertinent thing which has been seen in their side so far is the fact that they have played with two leg-spinners in which, Imran Tahir has been constant and the pick of the bowler. Steve Smith, the captain, who missed out the last game due to a bad stomach, is expected to feature in this game.

The Steve Smith led side would look to repeat what they did against Mumbai Indians and will try to be back on the winning track. They have done well while chasing and will perhaps look to chase in this game as well.

The Rising Pune Supergiant will try to put their best possible eleven in this match considering the two back to back losses. Very few changes are likely to be made and here is the RPS Predicted XI for the RPS VS GL encounter:

Openers (Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal)

There is no doubt that Ajinkya Rahane will be opening the innings, the form he has been in recent past provides stability at the top of the order. Rahane’s role is to anchor the innings and rotate the strike so that the other batsman can play freely. He may not have the ability to start the innings with big sixes, but he has his own formulas to maintain a healthy strike rate.

On the other hand, it’s expected from Mayank Agarwal to provide the firepower at the top. He is a prolific batsman up the order but he couldn’t convert the starts into a big score this season. Provided the talent he has, he is expected to deliver and provide a good start to his team.

Top Order (Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwary)

The Australian star, Steve Smith again has a responsibility on his shoulders to lead his team from the front as he has always been a crucial player for their side from the time he joined this franchise, he sets the tone for the coming batsman by building the foundation at the top. A large percentage of Pune’s hope sticks to his performance. He missed out the last game due to a bad stomach and is all set to return.

The stabilizer, who has his own repertoire, is expected to return in the match against Gujarat Lions. Tiwary missed out the last game due to his father’s demise. He has been the surprise performer for their side and is expected to play a key role and show his exemplary hitting skills. It will be a good opportunity for him to cement his place in this side.

Middle Order (MS Dhoni, Ben Stokes and Rajat Bhatia)

MS Dhoni, the ultimate leader isn’t in the best of forms as he hasn’t managed to convert the starts into big scores. He needs to fire and deliver for what he is known for.

Next in line is Ben Stokes, who needs to do the finishing job. Stokes was expected to be the fulcrum of the side and arguably, the best all rounder in IPL 2017. He played a decent knock against Kings XI Punjab and will have the job to end innings on a high note.

The veteran of the side, Rajat Bhatia has been playing a major role with the ball and over the years, he has evolved as a cricketer. He has to put his cutters right and keep the runs down in the middle overs.

Bowlers (Imran Tahir, Deepak Chahar, Ashok Dinda and Adam Zampa)

The best bowler in the tournament, so far, with Rashid Khan, is not only bowling at a good economy, but is also providing breakthroughs at crucial stages of the innings. Imran Tahir found no buyers in the auction and after coming as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh, has played a vital role for his side. He has picked 6 wickets so far with an economy of under 7.

Deepak Chahar had a decent outing with the ball in the last game, picking wicket off his first ball but couldn’t continue in the same way. He again will have a chance to make an impression in this game.

Ashok Dinda has been decent with the new ball but woes lie in the end overs, where he seems to have minimal control. He carries a good amount of experience at his back and is expected to deliver the same in this game.

The second leg-spinner in their side, Adam Zampa, is expected to get another look in the game on Friday. He took six wickets in the last season of IPL and has been the best leg spinner for Australia last year. He has always been a very economical bowler who has a decent economy of 7.75 in IPL.
