The Sunrisers Hyderabad got back to winning ways when they beat the Kings XI Punjab at their home venue in Hyderabad. It was a very close game on hands that went down the wire. The way Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled SRH to the victory deserves every good adjective in the dictionary. At the same time, Kings XI Punjab batsman Manan Vohra also needs to be credited for showing a fightback.

Coming into the game, both teams were trying to get back to the winning ways. They had lost their last two matches of the season after having won their first two games this season. Certainly, the teams had similar fortunes and similar plans for the match. On the day, it was KXIP skipper Glenn Maxwell who won the toss and elected to field first. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the services of Shikhar Dhawan early on in the innings.

The wickets seemed to crash down from the other end as David Warner held the fort from other end. Naman Ojha supported Warner with a cameo in the middle overs. Eventually, an unbeaten 70 from Warner saw Sunrisers Hyderabad finish with 159/6 in their 20 overs. In the run chase, Kings XI Punjab was never in the hunt. Half the side was back in the hut with less than 60 runs on the board. It was a one-man show from Manan Vohra that saw Kings inch closer to the win. They eventually fell short by just 5 runs as Vohra perished with 95 to his name.

Here are the Sunrisers Hyderabad Player Ratings for the SRH v KXIP encounter:

David Warner – 9/10

Sunrisers skipper David Warner was absolutely phenomenal on the day. Warner saw the wickets crash down from one end but did not let that bother his spirits. He ensured that the scorecard kept ticking. Unlike a conventional David Warner, he did not go out flashy with the big shots. He rather batted sensibly to see the team through to a decent total.

He ended up with 70 runs to his name in just 54 deliveries. His knock was studded with 7 fours and a couple of sixes. He built up his innings perfectly. Warner looked sluggish till he reached his fifty. Soon after that he managed to get those extra bit of runs towards the end overs.

Shikhar Dhawan – 2/10

Shikhar Dhawan had a very ordinary day at the office. He surely needs to pull up his socks if he wishes to get back in the news headlines yet again. Dhawan scored a run-a-ball 15 as he opened the innings with Warner. The run scoring was not easy and Warner surely had a tough time with the bat doing things all by his own. Had Dhawan shouldered more responsibility, Warner could have played more freely at the crease. The SRH camp will be hoping to see more from Dhawan in the coming matches.

Moises Henriques – 4/10

Moises Henriques found it very tough going in the match. Henriques looked to run hard in the match as he came back to the lineup for the key encounter. He had already scored 2 fifties in this season and that is something the SRH camp were looking up to. The Aussie all-rounder had a bad time with the bat and could score only 9 off the 16 balls that he faced.

In the bowling department, it was surprising to see him bowl just a couple of overs. Despite having bowled well in those two overs, he did not get his complete quota of overs. He got a wicket too in the overs that he bowled and gave away just 3 runs.

Yuvraj Singh – 1/10

A lot of eyes were on Yuvraj Singh as he walked into bat in the first innings of the match. He had a horrid time at the crease and was dismissed for a golden duck on the day. Yuvraj did not have much say in the match though. He has not been tested with the ball by the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper yet. It might only add up to the team’s cause if he gets a go with the ball too.

Naman Ojha – 7/10

Many were surprised to see Naman Ojha walk ahead of the likes of Mohammad Nabi in the match. Ojha had been a very consistent performer for his previous IPL franchises. However, he has not get enough chances during his sting with the bat for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Today, when he got the chance, he ensured to take the responsibility and grabbed the opportunity.

Ojha walked in to bat at number 5 and gave good support to David Warner. He added 60 runs with the captain that steadied the SRH innings. He finished with 34 runs to his name in 20 balls with 2 fours and a six. With the gloves, he was quite impressive too.

Deepak Hooda – 1/10

For the reason that Hooda failed to set in the role of the finisher, he gets only one in the ratings. Hooda is big reputation player in the domestic circuit. Hence, the expectations are always high to see him do the – see ball, hit ball – type of a gameplay. But the young Baroda lad has not quite clicked this season.

He came in to bat ahead of an experienced Mohammad Nabi. All he could manage was 12 runs off 10 balls on the day. He gave a glimmer of hope with a boundary to his name but perished soon after.

Mohammad Nabi – 7/10

What an impressive debut Mohammad Nabi had! The veteran Aghanistani batsman had the time of his life when he took the field and made his IPL debut on the day. He was under immense pressure when he came in to bat in the last over of the innings. A mistimed pull shot saw him make the long walk back for a single digit score.

A lot of eyes were glued to him when he came in to bowl. KXIP batsman Eoin Morgan welcomed him to the IPL with a thunderous six over the deep midwicket. However, the veteran dealer showed great courage and character. He cleaned up Morgan in his next over. He finished with figures of 1/28 in his complete quota of four overs on the day.

Rashid Khan – 8/10

Rashid Khan has undoubtedly been the star player for the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. The young Afghanistani leggie does not seem to be in a mood to cease his merry run and why would he anyway! Rashid’s dream run with the ball continued in this match as well.

He picked up two key wickets in the match and broke the back of the Kings XI Punjab middle-order. He bowled the star player of the opposition – David Miller. Soon, within a couple of deliveries, he got through the defences of Wriddhiman Saha with a googly. However, his last over saw him leak 21 runs as Manan Vohra showed some splendid batting skills. He finished with figures of 2/42 on the day.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 9.5

Bhuvneshwar Kumar brought all his experience to great use on the day. What an impressive spell of fast bowling was put forth by Bhuvi in the match. He bowled tight lines with the new ball and then came back in the death overs to choke the opposition. Manan Vohra was taking all the bowlers to cleaners but Bhuvi got his yorker right to trap him lbw on 95.

That sealed the game for the SRH. He returned with a brilliant five-wicket haul to his name. In the 4 overs that he bowled today, he gave away only 19 runs. The economy of 4.75 speaks volumes about his prowess with the ball. He is the proud owner of the Purple Cap at the moment.

Barinder Sran – 1/10

Barinder Sran was the only Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler who failed to get a wicket on the day. He gave as many as 29 runs in the two overs that he bowled today. He did not look threatening against the batsmen. He had started off in a decent manner. Sran gave just 9 runs in his first over. However, when he was brought back to the bowling attack in the 15th over of the match, he went for 20 runs.

Siddharth Kaul – 5/10

Siddharth Kaul got his first match of the season and had the task of defending the total in the final over. The young bowler managed to hold on to his nerves after Sandeep Sharma had given a brief scare with a scoop shot on the very first ball of the last over. He then managed to dismiss Ishant Sharma on the fourth ball of the last over to ensure the SRH win on the night. In the 3.4 overs that he bowled, he gave only 26 runs.
