The Kings XI Punjab would finally be relieved to host a ‘home’ match after their campaign at their adopted home in Indore. They take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the PCA stadium, Mohali. The Punjab side would be glad to put an end to their losing streak, after defeating the Gujarat Lions at their own home ground at Rajkot.

KXIP need to gather some important points in the upcoming matches to progress towards the top of the table. They were put into bat first by the Gujarat Lions and posted a daunting total of 188 on the board with decent contributions from Amla, Marsh, Maxwell and a final flourish from Axar.

The Punjab side bowled exceptionally well to restrict the hosts to 162 and thus secure a win by a healthy margin of 26 runs.

Openers (Hashim Amla, Manan Vohra)

Kings XI Punjab has been able to post daunting total in the first innings due to the starts provided by either Hashim Amla or Manan Vohra. Amla has usually been the one who has anchored the innings as well as accelerated in the later part.

Amla scored a fluent 65 in the last match against Lions following his brilliant century against Mumbai Indians. Vohra missed out in the previous match but showed his prowess with the bat as he single-handedly threatened to chase down the total set by Sunrisers with his 95.

All in all, the opening pair looks sorted with grace of Amla and aggression of Vohra

Middle Order (Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Wriddhiman Saha)

Shaun Marsh has hit some of the crispiest shots in the powerplay this edition of the IPL. Kings XI Punjab has given the left-hander only a couple of opportunity to bat. KXIP have kept everyone guessing with their combination in the middle, juggling between Eoin Morgan, David Miller, and Shaun Marsh.

However, it is highly unlikely that Marsh would be made to sit out in tomorrow’s match after being given just a couple of outings. Punjab’s skipper Glenn Maxwell has been in a decent nick himself but would like to convert his starts into something substantial as he holds the key in the middle order for the Punjab side. He played a good hand in their last outing at Rajkot.

Kings XI Punjab’s wicketkeeper, Wriddhiman Saha, has been used as a floater. His cameos down the order or at the powerplays may prove to be significant in the context of the game.

All-Rounders (Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel)

Axar Patel has been the backbone of Punjab’s campaign this season. He has produced several man of the match performances as he delivers both with the bat and ball consistently. His 34-run knock remained the match-defining moment which took the match away from the opposition. The Indian international followed up his performance with the bat by taking a couple of crucial wickets with the ball.

The presence of Stoinis completely changes the balance of the King’s XI side as he is always handy with the ball apart from hitting a few out of the park. However, the Melbourne Star would hope to get a decent outing with the bat this season of the IPL to prove his mettle.

Bowlers (KC Cariappa, Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan)

KC Cariappa’s spells in the middle have completely changed the course of matches in the recent games. He is responsible for stemming the flow of runs as well as chipping in with vital wickets. In the last match as well, he gave away only 24 runs in his quota of 4 overs at an exceptional economy of 6 while taking a couple of important wickets.

The pace trio of Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, and T Natarajan would hope to make the most out of the pace and bounce the Mohali wicket offers naturally. Kings XI’s pace battery has been delivering well in tandem after the exclusion of the expensive Ishant Sharma and Varun Aaron.

Mohit has always been effective with his back of the hand slower deliveries at the death. Sandeep has held the reputation of producing yorkers during the crunch situations of the match. The least experienced among the lot, Natarajan needs to bring in his TNPL experience to use to make an impact in the IPL.
