The Royal Challengers Bangalore endured a heavy defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the season opener. Now they are up against a spirited Delhi Daredevils side who are keen to start off on a big note after having had a poor season last year. The two sides have similar fortunes going in to the match as they have a plethora of player exits and injury concerns to deal with.

The Delhi camp has been jolted by opting out of the overseas Proteas batsmen JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock. Another overseas superstar in Angelo Mathews is expected to arrive late or perhaps even miss out on the entire tournament due to a hamstring injury. Young Indian batsmen Shreyas Iyer is also out of the setup for the initial days of the tournament. On the other hand, the weakness of Royal Challengers Bangalore line up was felt too.

They struggled without the services of their top two batsmen AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. Just like Delhi are bereft of Shreyas Iyer in their middle order, RCB will also miss the services of attacking youngster Sarfaraz Khan. With such severely depleted sides on the cards, it will be more of a test of the bench strength of both the times on the night.

Focus will be on

Rishabh Pant

Delhi youngster Rishabh Pant played a handful of games last season but showed he can be dangerous prospect in the shortest format of the game. He had decimated the likes of Mustafizur in one of the matches last year. Since then, he has grown immensely in stature in the Indian cricket circuit. He hit a triple ton in the Ranji Trophy and then also scored the fastest Ranji century. He then backed it up with another couple of centuries too. He is in top form at the moment and will be a key player to watch out for. He recently lost his father but has joined the team camp despite the fact.

Aditya Tare

Aditya Tare surprisingly finds himself in a very unique position. Interestingly, he is the most experienced batsman in the Delhi Daredevils roster at the moment along with Karun Nair. Tare has been a decent performer in the IPL and was very impressive for Mumbai Indians a season ago. He was with Sunrisers Hyderabad last year but did not get too many opportunities. Now, he will be playing the senior role in the team.

Tymal Mills

Tymal Mills was the second most expensive player at the IPL auctions this year. The English pacer had a very decent opening match where he picked the wicket of star performer of the match – Yuvraj Singh. He had done decently early on with the new ball when he gave just 12 runs in the first two overs. He was a tad expensive towards the death overs and that is something that he will be looking forward to.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – Team Combination

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are likely to field the same side that they fielded in the previous match. Chris Gayle and Mandeep Singh had provided a decent start. Shane Watson could be promoted up the order and that might help stabilise the innings. Kedar Jadhav and Travis Head had got decent starts but failed to make it big. The bowling had been far from impressive barring the impressive showing by Tymal Mills and Yuzvendra Chahal.

They will want the likes of Stuart Binny to shoulder more responsibilty considering the fact that he has been a veteran in the shortest format. The absence of AB de Villiers and Kohli is bound to hurt but playing at the home ground at Bengaluru can give them a lot of confidence going in to the match.

Delhi Daredevils – Team Combination

The Delhi Daredevils find themselves in a position where they do not have too many options to play with. They lack the overseas firepower in the batting department. Batsmen like Sam Billings will have a major say in the match and might well bat as high as at the opening slot. The absence of Shreyas Iyer at the top order will pave way for his move to the opening slot with Sanju Samson. In form batsman Rishabh Pant can come in at number three and he can be followed by Aditya Tare or Karun Nair.

In the all-rounder department, they have Corey Anderson, Chris Morris and Carlos Brathwaite on the roster. They will mostly go in with the tested combination of Carlos Brathwaite and Chris Morris in the match. The bowling looks strong with skipper Zaheer Khan spearheading the line up. Mohammad Shami has a few concerns over his fitness. Kagiso Rabada will be making his debut in the IPL this year and will have all eyes set on him.
