Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has come out in favor of star pacer Lasith Malinga. Malinga came into the tournament this year riding on a hat-trick in an international fixture against Bangladesh. He was expected to be the spearhead of the MI camp but failed to impress in the opportunities that he got for the Mumbai Indians. He went for over 50 runs in two consecutive matches following which he did not feature for the team again.

Amidst this scenario, the Sri Lanka pace bowler has found some support from team-mate Parthiv Patel. Patel noted that the team is not much worried about the form of Malinga. As per the quotes in Times of India, Patel quipped that the team camp has a lot of bowling options and hence the form of one particular bowler does not bother the team much.

“He is coming out of injury. He has been proven match-winner in both levels – International as well as IPL – and we are not worried about his form. I am sure Malinga will come back strongly. We have good options, our bowling attack is not something which is dependent on any bowler or any wicket. We have variety in bowling,” quoted Parthiv Patel.

While Malinga has not been at his best, Jasprit Bumrah is trying to fill in his big boots. He has emerged as a quality death overs bowlers in the recent times. Patel pointed out that Bumrah has been doing a tremendous job for both India and Gujarat in the recent times. He is translating it for Mumbai Indians now.

“He has now become a much-improved bowler. He is improving his game every year since he started playing for Gujarat in Ranji Trophy. He has done well for both Gujarat and Mumbai Indians.” said Parthiv.

Talking about the plans the team is cooking up for the opposition, Parthiv remarked that the team is keen on working on their strengths rather than focusing on what other teams are achieving. Speaking about his own form, the wicket-keeper said that he is happy with his own performance.

“It’s important for us to focus on what we can achieve. We do not think about what opposition is doing, we have our plans and we try to execute those properly. Our focus is on what we can achieve rather than what is coming at us. I didn’t get more than thirties, but I’m happy the way I’m hitting the ball and will try to stay longer at the crease,” quipped Parthiv Patel.

The Mumbai camp are being coached by Mahela Jayawardene this season. Patel was all praise for the former Sri Lankan. He noted that Jayawardene has brought a lot of experience to the board. “He has vast experience of playing T20 in different countries, so he understands how difficult the T20 format is. He also brought calmness to the dressing room which is visible on the field,” he quoted.
