Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was a mighty pleased man after his team finished as the table toppers in the points table of IPL 2017. This, in essence, means that they will now be guaranteed of two shots at the all-important final. In their last league game, Mumbai Indians beat the Kolkata Knight Riders. Going into the game, they did not have the winning momentum to their side.

MI had lost their last two games and were in a spot of bother prior to the game. They were up against the spirited Kolkata Knight Riders at the fortress of the latter – the Eden Gardens. Hence, things were not going to be easy. However, they managed to eke out a narrow win. Skipper Rohit Sharma lauded the efforts of the team and noted that it was important to finish on a high. He was pleased to see the bench strength perform well.

“We spoke of finishing on a high. We wanted to play the brand of cricket we spoke about. Very happy. Today proved we have a great bench strength. It can be frustrating to sit out, but all of them have been proven match-winners,” quoted Rohit Sharma.

A Perfect Game

He further noted that the team had always been wanting to come up with a perfect game. This match against the Knight Riders was arguably the kind of game they were hoping for. His counterpart, Gautam Gambhir was not pleased with the way KKR played in the match. But for Rohit and co., the merry run continued.

“This was the perfect example of playing a perfect game. They were going at 10 an over but we kept picking wickets. We were sticking to our plans, we didn’t panic. When the batsmen go after the bowlers like that, it can be hard to keep calm but everyone executed well. It’s a little tournament we have to play now, the playoffs,” said Rohit.
