English T20 specialist Tymal Mills was one of the biggest attractions at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions this year. The pace bowler was bought for INR 12 crore at the auction to be the second most expensive player at the auctions. A lot of eyes were glued to the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp as Mills was set to join the roster. He ended up playing in the very first match of the season and picked the wicket of Yuvraj Singh.

Since then, he has featured in all the matches for the RCB and has been quite impressive too. His ability to clock speeds close 150 kmph has been his strength. Also, he has a huge gamut of slower balls that are very hard to pick. Recently, Tymal Mills wrote a column for the Sportsmail to tell his fans about the wonderful IPL experience he is having. He started off with an introductory message.

Mills wrote, “Greetings from India for the first of my columns for Sportsmail as I give you an insight into the carnival that is the IPL! Hopefully, I can give you a taste of what it’s like playing and living with and against the best cricketers in the world.”

Recalling the day of the season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tymal Mills noted that he was not even going to be a part of the match. The coach, Daniel Vettori, had informed him that he will not be a part of the match and was very disappointed about it. However, Samuel Badree was injured during the warm up and that saw him drafted in the lineup straightaway.

“The big day arrived and our opening fixture against my good mate Chris Jordan and the Sunrisers, last year’s champions, but I was told by the coach I wasn’t selected and would be running drinks which disappointed me,” quoted Mills.

“I finished up with Butch and just as I was heading back into the dressing room Vettori calls me over, tells me that Sam Badree had injured himself in the warm-up, we had won the toss and I’m bowling the first over of the tournament in 30 minutes. A bit of a change of fortunes!” he added further.

Mills is very happy with the hospitality that he has been getting in India. Also, he feels privileged to be in the elite company of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. “It’s been pretty cool to rub shoulders and be around some of the big names and personalities in our team such as Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers to name but three,” said the English pacer.

“We are looked after very well here as the IPL moves around this vast country. The hotels, as you would expect, are excellent and the food is outstanding at every stop,” conceded Tymal Mills.
