The tenth edition of the Indian Premier league is only second to the least number of games in the IPL during which 100 sixes were hit.

The 100th six was smashed by Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Mandeep Singh against Kings XI Punjab at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Monday.

The only time when the matches taken to reach 100 sixes were less was in 2015 when Harbhajan Singh of the Mumbai Indians smashed the 100th six in the seventh match of the season.

In the inaugural season of the IPL, the 100th six came in the eighth match. The ton of sixes was reached in the 10th game in the second edition while 100th six came in the 10th match in the third edition.

As per reports in Hindustan Times, 41 batsmen have smashed sixes in this season of the IPL.

The most number of sixes in this edition have been hit by Bangalore’s De Villiers and Kolkata Knight Riders’ Chris Lynn, having managed nine each.

The Kings XI skipper Glenn Maxwell’s score is the next highest, having hit eight of his own.

If we look at the sixes per team, RCB have hit the most of the total sixes from all teams. RCB players have hit 26 of the 118 sixes in IPL 10.

The very charm of T20 cricket is the big scores, and out of the park sixes. Unlike in other formats, the batsman doesn’t fear to get out in his attempt to hit a six, and thus T20 witnesses more sixes than One Day Internationals. Most of the big hits come towards the end of the innings, in the last 4 overs especially, when the situation usually is do or die.

There have also been a few instances of the ball injuring a spectator in the stands. But sixes, truly are a sight to behold.
