It will be the battle between two bottom-placed sides in the tournament as Gujarat Lions meet Rising Pune Supergiant in the 13th match of Vivo IPL 10. While Gujarat is yet to get off the mark in the tournament so far, Rising Pune Supergiant started off their campaign with a nail-biting victory against the two-time champions Mumbai Indians.

They were unable to replicate their form in the next two matches as they suffered big defeats at the hands of Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils. They will definitely look to get their act right in the battle between the two bottom-placed side in the tournament. But it is still early days in the tournament and anything can happen in the next few days.

Pune is yet to win a match against the Gujarat Lions losing both their encounter in the previous edition. Gujarat will be playing in front of their home crowd which will definitely go in their favour but the return of Steve Smith will surely bolster Pune ahead of a crucial encounter. Gujarat, on the other hand, will be eyeing a comeback after losing their opening two encounters against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.

After two consecutive losses, Gujarat has understood it’s simply impossible to qualify for the playoffs with this sort of a bowling line-up. Their ploy to go with 4 overseas batsmen hasn’t worked either and their Indian bowling tank apart from Praveen Kumar hasn’t been able to get their act going. Manpreet Gony,  Dhawal Kulkarni, Tejas Baroka, Basil Thampi and Shivil Kaushik have all struggled which added to the misery of captain Suresh Raina. So with less than 8 hours to go for the evening match of the double header to commence, let us have a look at the match predictions

Here is what Crictracker predicts for the game:

Scenario 1: GL will win the toss

Toss Prediction: GL choose to bowl

First innings prediction: 160-165

2nd innings Prediction: GL win by 4 wickets (with 2 balls to spare)

Scenario 2: RPS will win the toss

Toss Prediction: RPS will choose to bowl

First innings Prediction: 155-160

2nd innings Prediction: RPS will by 4 wickets (will win in the final delivery)

Head to Head Record

Overall: Matches – 2 GL Won – 2 RPS Won – 0

Both teams will look for a turnaround in their fortunes which will make it an evenly matched contest. Both teams look evens stevens on paper and Gujarat will be bolstered by the return of left-arm tweaker Ravindra Jadeja. They have missed a world class bowler in the middle of the innings and the World No.1 Test bowler can provide them with the much-needed balance they were craving for in the last two matches.

Playing Combinations

Gujarat Lions

The home team will be bolstered by the return of Ravindra Jadeja who took a break after the long and hectic home season where India played 13 Tests. He will surely look to get back to rhythm from the word go which might prove to be the killer punch for Gujarat Lions. He is a hard-hitting batsman lower down the order and is expected to provide the much-needed stability.

Dwayne Bravo trained with the boys for a full net session earlier in this week but he will require another few days to get match fit. All-rounder James Faulkner is in line to replace Jason Roy in the XI after below-par returns for the English openers in the opening two matches. Faulkner is an asset to any limited overs side with his all-round abilities with both bat and the ball.

The remaining XI is expected to remain the same. Dwayne Smith might open the innings with Brendon McCullum followed by captain Suresh Raina and Aaron Finch. Dinesh Karthik has looked in good form which will be a good sign for Gujarat.

Predicted XI: Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith, Suresh Raina ©, Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik, James Faulkner, Ravindra Jadeja, Praveen Kumar, Tejas Baroka, Manpreet Gony

Rising Pune Supergiant

RPS will welcome back their captain Steve Smith who missed out the previous encounter against Delhi Daredevils due to a stomach bug, It was the heroics of the captain which saved Pune from the blushes in the first match against the Mumbai Indians.

Considering the pitch, Raina might be tempted to go with Dan Christian in place of Adam Zampa as there is already a leggie in their ranks. Christian struck some lusty blows the other day and can also bowl 2 3 overs in the middle. On the other hand, Imran Tahir has looked a class apart but hasn’t got too much support from the other end. Ben Stokes will surely look to fire all cylinders and prove his price tag of 14.5 crores.

It will be a big match for former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who had pretty ordinary returns in the first 3 games. Smith clarified that he wasn’t worried about Dhoni’s form as everyone is aware of the abilities Dhoni possess so it’s just a matter of time before we get a big innings from his blade. Manoj Tiwary is also expected to return in place of Rahul Tripathi after missing the last game due to his father’s demise.

Predicted XI: Mayank Agarwal, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith (capt), Manoj Tiwary, Ben Stokes, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Rajat Bhatia, Deepak Chahar, Daniel Christian, Ashok Dinda, Imran Tahir

The odds are tilted in favour of Gujarat Lions with a 100% record against the Rising Pune Supergiant. In addition to that, GL will be playing in front of their home crowd but with Steve Smith back in the scheme of things we might be in for a good show from RPS.
