The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been a consistent outfit in the Indian Premier League over the last couple of years. They won the championship in the 2016 edition of the tournament and managed to make it to the business end of the tournament last year as well. Coming in to the 2018 edition, they look like a strong unit yet again. Prior to the auctions, they had retained two of their key players.

They had retained the services of their captain David Warner and the services of their ace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. And, at the auctions, they have made some very good buys. The SRH camp has the habit of unearthing young talent from remote locations. They were the ones who had bought the Afghanistani cricketers last year and they have retained them this year as well.

All the franchises had a purse of INR 80 crore as they headed in to the auctions. The teams were allowed to pick up a maximum of 25 players. This includes a maximum of 8 overseas players.  Interestingly, only four teams could manage to bag 25 players in the auctions. Sunrisers Hyderabad are one of them.

Big buys and the average expenditure

The Sunrisers Hyderabad retained their star bowler Rashid Khan for a whopping INR 9 crore. He turned out to be the costliest overseas buy for the SRH team. SRH used the RTM to get back his services. Meanwhile, they used their other RTM to retain Shikhar Dhawan in their camp. Dhawan fetched a deal worth INR 5.2 crore.

The Indian cricketer who got the highest bid from the SRH team in the auctions of 2018 was Manish Pandey. The Karnataka batsman fetched a deal of INR 11 crore. Among the other notable recruits of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the names of Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, and Carlos Brathwaite are the big names. The Orange Army looks set for another title stint under the leadership of David Warner one more time.

In all, Sunrisers Hyderabad shelled out INR 79.35 crore at the auctions for their 25 players. Hence, their average expenditure on each turned out to be INR 3,174,000 or INR 3.174 crore.
