IPL 2018: Cops arrest seven people for allegedly running a betting racket in Indore

The cops acting on a tip managed to nab the accused.

The Indian Premier League (IPL), ever since its inception in 2008 has been surrounded with controversies involving betting and other corrupt practices. Every year the cops burst betting rackets and arrest quite a few people around the country amidst the tournament. Recently, a similar case was exposed in Indore when police arrested seven people on the basis of a tip received from a source.

As per an official, the Indore police arrested seven individuals for allegedly betting on the ongoing IPL matches. Based on a tip, the police raided an apartment in Rajendra Nagar area of the city last night, to get a better penetration into the matter. They were not disappointed as the tip was about people betting on the T20 matches. It was a betting racket which came to the fore and the cops recovered 4.3 lakh rupees in cash.

“We caught seven people placing bets on the ongoing IPL cricket matches,” Superintendent of Police S K S Tomar told reporters today.

Apart for the money, they even get hold of electronic devices including 50 mobile phones, two laptops and a special telecommunication device, that were must be used for operating the racket. It was even made clear that the accused were staying in the apartment for quite some time and hail from the neighbouring Ujjain district. The police revealed that they were running the racket for the past two months.

The sleuths using telecommunication device to connect 16 mobile phones simultaneously to place bets on the cricket matches, at the time of the raid. They even suspect that the gang has links with the bookies in the state’s Satna district. However, further investigation will be carried out in the matter to nab more people involved, the police confirmed.
