India is the second most populated country in the world, but do you know that more than five lakh people in the country die every year because of non-availability of essential organs such as liver, heart, kidney and even eyes? A very small amount of 1000 deceased donate their organs every year. The rest who fail to get an organ have no other option but to die waiting for an organ.

To understand the organ donation and to promote the awareness of the same, the IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils including Gautam Gambhir, Prithvi Shaw and other members in the squad pledged their organs at a special event organised by Fortis Healthcare to celebrate the ‘Spirit of Giving. Gambhir requested everyone to become an organ donor and help someone live a better life.

“I want to request everyone to become an organ donor. I myself am an organ donor. The ability to help someone live a better life there is no better feeling than this,” said Gambhir who has already pledged to donate his organs. “Organ donation reflects humanity’s capability to give another life after we have lived our own. It is an initiative which is very close to my heart and I urge everyone to become an organ donor. I am happy to be a part of Fortis ‘More to Give’ initiative,” Gambhir further added as per quotes on Times Now.

Under-performing on the field

Delhi recently changed the skipper in order to turn their fortunes around. The former skipper Gambhir also benched himself after making way for Shreyas Iyer to take over as the new captain for the betterment of the team. But, nothing went in the franchise’s way thus far. The Daredevils are currently on the last spot on the points table with just 6 points from 10 games. They have won only three games and lost seven thus far.

DD have four more games left in their tank against Sunrisers, Royal Challengers, Chennai and Mumbai Indians. It’s very tough for the side to make it to the top four given the opponents in their upcoming games.
