When Kolkata Knight Riders picked three U-19 stars, everybody who had followed the World Cup was over the moon and excited to see these players in action. The case was so particularly in the matter of Shubman Gill who had been bought after a fantastic performance at the tournament. However, a lot of people were left disappointed when Gill did not feature in the Starting XI. A few games later when he made his debut, he was slotted at No. 7, which was far more disappointing than seeing him on the bench because that position is far from his natural game and leaves no scope of contribution when the batting line-up is nearly over.

There were several instances when KKR lost early wickets and viewers were left hoping that Gill would bat somewhere in the Top 4. However, that has not happened so far. The only promotion we have seen for Gill so far has been him coming to bat at No. 6 against Delhi Daredevils. Interestingly, that performance alone was a testament to why KKR needs to somehow slot him in the Top 4. KKR found themselves in an unfavourable situation then but Gill with his 37-run-knock under pressure showed that he was capable of taking more responsibility and could do well for their batting order if he is given some time on the crease.
