Gautam Gambhir has been one of the most successful captains in the Indian Premier League. The Delhi cricketer commenced his IPL campaign with the Delhi Daredevils. However, he moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders and turned out to be a fulcrum of the franchise and won them a couple of titles in his eight-year stint with the franchise.

However, Gambhir was released by the Knights and he entered the auction as a marquee player on accounts of having an illustrious career in the tournament. He subsequently bagged by the Daredevils for the eleventh season. Recently, he also was crowned as the captain of the franchise. Hemant Dua, the CEO of the Daredevils, showed his delight and welcomed Gambhir back to the Delhi franchise.

Unfinished business for Gambhir

“I had maintained post the auction that Gauti (Gambhir) has unfinished business with the franchise. He was the second-highest scorer during the last IPL. But above all, he is a leader, so this appointment was an easy choice. Both Ricky (Ponting) and Gauti have spoken to each other. I am glad that they are both on the same page,” Dua was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The CEO also praised Gambhir’s leadership skills while referring to him as an inspiration for the youngsters. “Gauti has been a leader for a very long time. He has always proven himself to be one of the top leaders during his stint with other sides in the IPL. He has a big personality, but it is the drive behind the outward confidence which I think will inspire the rest of the team” he added.

Meanwhile, Gambhir remarked that Delhi has a strong squad and has every chance of lifting the title for the maiden time. He is currently the fourth highest run-scorer in the cash-rich league. Delhi has been inconsistent over the erstwhile editions of the IPL, however, they would be looking to make amends under Gambhir’s captaincy.
