IPL 2018: Highest paid overseas cricketer in each team

The biggest cricketing extravaganza in India’s calendar, IPL 2018 is already underway with the player auction taking place earlier this weekend. It was an action-filled two days as we witnessed some intense bidding wars between franchises as they attempted to bolster their respective squads. With the salary cap increased for the auction process, the teams didn’t shy away from spending big to procure their desired players. Overseas cricketers have been a marquee feature of the iconic T20 league. And this year witnessed an overwhelming response with a plethora of foreign players going under the hammer. We take a look at the highest paid overseas cricketer in each team. CSK – Dwayne Bravo – 6.4 crore (Photo Source: Getty Images) | CricTracker.com Swashbuckling Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was retained by CSK after the franchise exercised the Right to Match card at Rs 6.40 crore at the player auction held in Bengaluru. He is an acclaimed T20 freelancer and having plied his trade in the shortest format across continents, Bravo will bring in a much-needed experience into the squad. The two-time champions will once again be skippered by Dhoni and Bravo is been known to be his triumph card. With the duo back together on the same team, it will be a lethal combination that other teams need to be wary about. There were a lot of contenders for Maxwell – SRH and Rajasthan Royals being the foremost. But it was Delhi who finally added Maxwell to their kitty. A hard-hitter of the ball, he was recruited by KXIP in the IPL Player Auction 2014 and has since made vital contributions to the team. The Australian was integral to the team’s success when they made it to the final in 2014 and will be hoping to set the stage alight again in the upcoming season for his new team. Since then he has taken great strides in his career and eventually landed in IPL in 2015 for the CSK franchise. However he didn’t play any match and it was in 2017 for Gujarat Lions, Tye got his IPL debut. With impressive performances, he now became the highest paid overseas cricketer for KXIP. The Australian cricketer was picked by the franchise for a sum of 7.2 crores. The medium-pacer looks upbeat about the upcoming season and justify his lofty price tag by delivering for his side. KKR – Chris Lynn – 9.6 Crore Chris Lynn of Australia bats. He played for KKR in the last edition of IPL as well. However, Lynn’s persistent injuries will remain a pressing concern for the franchise. In the last edition too, he missed a major chunk of the tournament owing to his shoulder injury. Lynn had to undergo a shoulder re-construction operation last July and even looked in trouble during the ongoing BBL. Going ahead, KKR can only pray that the swashbuckling batsman stays fit for the IPL. However, Mumbai came in and used the RTM card to bag him to their kitty. Pollard, known to be an absolute entertainer on the field, announced his arrival in IPL with the blue outfit in 2010. Since then, Carribean cricketer has been faithful to the franchise, and they have repaid it back with a hefty sum. The Mumbai will once again turn to him to take them to a position of dominance with his lusty blows. RR – Ben Stokes – 12.5 crore (Photo Source: Getty Images) | CricTracker.com He was picked by Rajasthan Royals at a whopping price of Rs 12.5 crore, making him the highest paid overseas cricketer of IPL 2018. Coincidentally, Stokes was snapped up for a record price of Rs 14.5 crore in the last season of the IPL as well. An iconic T20 player, the Englishman has a lot of experience under his belt. The inaugural champions are making a return to the fray after serving a two-year ban as they wish to forget their past horrors and start anew. The Proteas batsman was retained prior to the auctions and RCB didn’t shy away from shelling a big amount for his services. The camaraderie and teamwork between skipper Virat and AB de Villiers have been the backbone of the team for several seasons and they would want to keep it intact for the upcoming challenge as well. SRH – David Warner – 12.5 crore (Photo Source: Getty Images) | CricTracker.com SRH have done reasonably well in the auction making some smart buys in a bid to bolster their squad for the new edition. The franchise has also broken the bank on some instances to get their desired players. SRH finds their most expensive overseas cricketer in Australian vice-captain David Warner. Warner’s contribution has been imperative to the side. The Aussie vice-captain led SRH to their maiden IPL title in 2016. And it was obvious, the owners would at no cost want to let go of their skipper.
