The returning Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise claimed its third Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 wickets in the final clash at the Wankhede Stadium. The MS Dhoni-led side was making a comeback in the competition after a span of two years.
The whole CSK team compiled some stunning performances throughout the tournament, as a different player stood up on different occasions. The IPL 2018 final match between CSK and SRH witnessed several landmark moments for both the sides and many new records were also created during the clash.
Ngidi and Bhuvneshwar bowl the first two maiden overs in an IPL final
The CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Sunrisers lost the early wicket of Shreevats Goswami in the second over, which aggregated the opening jitters in the SRH dugout. CSK’s overseas fast bowler Lungi Ngidi who was playing his first IPL final bowled a sensational opening spell which included the first ever maiden over bowled in an IPL final. The South African pacer bowled six menacing deliveries with lovely variations in the fourth over and the SRH skipper Kane Williamson failed to score.
Ngidi finished his remarkable day in the final giving away 26 runs in his quota of four overs and picked up the wicket of Deepak Hooda. He became the first bowler in the history of the tournament to bowl a maiden over in an IPL final.
During the second innings of the final clash, CSK were given a challenging task of chasing 179 runs to win the IPL trophy for the third time. SRH fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an outstanding first over in which he ended up giving away not a single run. He bowled six dot balls to Watson in the opening over of the chase, as the ball was swinging and he bowled tight lines to keep him under control.
After Ngidi, Bhuvneshwar became the second bowler to bowl a maiden over in the final match of the IPL. However, keeping the first ten deliveries aside, Watson played a stupendous knock to take his side to the title. He smashed his second hundred of the tournament and ended the season with 555 runs to his name in 15 matches.
