The Mumbai Indians have always been the late bloomers in the IPL and they seem to be living up to the tag this season as well. When they were on a losing spree in the season this year, many believed they would be the first to crash out of the competition. However, ever since the crunch situations have come their way, the defending champions have pulled off spectacular victories to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.

In their most recent game, they beat the Kolkata Knight Riders in a thumping fashion. This was their second win against the Knight Riders in the space of four days. In the game, they were asked to bat first. After decent starts from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, the innings gained momentum from Ishan Kishan’s 17-ball fifty. Ben Cutting’s handy cameo towards the end propelled them to 210 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, none of the KKR batsmen could live up to the occasion. The wickets kept tumbling and no batsman could show resilience at the crease. The MI bowlers made merry and chipped in with crucial wickets every time a KKR batsman looked like steadying the ship for them. Eventually, it was a thorough team effort that sealed the 102 run win for the Mumbai Indians.

Here are the Mumbai Indians player ratings for the match:

Suryakumar Yadav – 5/10

Suryakumar Yadav has been in top form this season. The veteran campaigner continued to give a decent start to the MI innings in the match. He looked very fluent during his 32 ball stay at the crease which yielded 36 runs for the team. He hit 5 fours and a six during his knock.

Evin Lewis – 3/10

Evin Lewis had a rather off day with the bat. Considering the batting track at the Eden Gardens, the Windies cricketer should have made the most out of the opportunity he had. But Lewis largely failed to get going after getting a decent start. He scored 18 off 13 deliveries during his stay at the crease.

Rohit Sharma – 5/10

Rohit Sharma was back to his happy hunting venue. Rohit, who has a love affair with the iconic venue in Kolkata, got off to a decent start in the innings. He looked good for the 36 runs that he scored, albeit he was not at fluent best. He faced 31 deliveries before heading back to the pavilion. With the captaincy role, he was spot on yet again. However, he could have used JP Duminy in the match, which he didn’t.

Ishan Kishan – 9.5/10

Ishan Kishan was the star of the Mumbai Indians innings. The young lad got a promotion in the batting order and he made full use of it. Ishan smashed a 17-ball fifty in the game and took the attack to the Kolkata Knight Riders. He ended up scoring 62 off mere 21 deliveries with five fours and six boundaries in the game.

Hardik Pandya – 8/10

Hardik Pandya looked in some serious hitting form with the bat. He hit a couple of sixes to give a lot of hopes to his fans. However, he could only score 19 in the 13 balls that he faced. But the all-rounder continued with his good form with the ball. He dismissed Nitish Rana and Andre Russell in the match to break the back of the KKR lineup. He finished with 2/16 to his name in the 3 overs that he bowled.

Krunal Pandya – 7.5/10

Krunal Pandya played a very tiny yet effective cameo with the bat to help MI finish on a high. He scored 8 off 2 deliveries in the innings. With the ball, he was the most economical bowler for the Mumbai Indians. In the 3.1 overs that he bowled, he returned with figures with 2/12.

Ben Cutting – 8/10

Ben Cutting played the role of the finisher for the Mumbai Indians in the game. He came in at the fag end of the innings and chipped in with a quick 9-ball 24 with three sixes and a four to his name. Later in the game, he also picked up the wicket of Piyush Chawla and returned with figures of 1/12 in two overs.

JP Duminy – Not Assigned

JP Duminy did not have a great role to play in the contest. Neither he get a chance to bat in the match, nor did he get his hands on the ball later in the game.

Mitchell McClenaghan – 6/10

Mitchell McClenaghan provided a very early breakthrough for the Mumbai Indians in the game. He dismissed Sunil Narine on the second ball of the KKR innings. He bowled good lines and looked in fine form in the match. Eventually, he finished with 1/24 to his name in 3 overs.

Mayank Markande – 6/10

Mayank Markande bowled his complete quota of four overs in the match. However, he did not look very effective with the ball. He bagged the wicket of Robin Uthappa yet again. Markanded finished with figures of 1/26 in the four overs that he bowled in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10

Jasprit Bumrah had a decent outing with the bat in the match. The veteran campaigner showed why he is regarded as one of the finest bowlers in the format. He bowled three overs and returned with figures of 1/17 in the game. He took the wicket of Rinku Singh.
