The Rajasthan Royals have managed to live another day in the competition. With their most recent win over the Chennai Super Kings in Jaipur, they have managed to keep their dim hopes alive this season. In the match, the Royals looked like falling short in the run chase of 176. However, a very determined Jos Buttler ensured that he stayed till the very end to see his side over the line in due time.
After having won the toss, the Chennai Super Kings got off to a poor start with Ambati Rayudu perishing in the powerplay. Shane Watson and Suresh Raina then added 86 runs for the second wicket before Watson perished for 39. Raina top scored for the side with 52 to his name. Towards the end, handy cameos from MS Dhoni (33*) and Sam Billings (27) took the CSK total to 176/4 in 20 overs.
In the run chase, the innings was all about Jos Buttler. Ever since his promotion as the Rajasthan Royals opener, Jos Buttler has been striking the ball with utmost sweetness. He continued his good form with the bat to finish with an unbeaten 95 off just 60 deliveries to anchor the run chase. The handy cameos played by K Gowtham and Stuart Binny also came in good for the Royals in the death overs.
Here are the Rajasthan Royals player ratings for the match:
Jos Buttler – 9.5/10
Jos Buttler was the hero of the run chase for the Rajasthan Royals. Buttler continued his sublime form in the tournament. He notched up his fourth consecutive fifty in the season. He did not let the falling of wickets from the other end affect his mentality. Buttler remained unbeaten on 95 off 60 deliveries with 11 fours and 2 sixes to seal the game for his team.
Ben Stokes – 3/10
English all-rounder Ben Stokes found a promotion in the game. Stokes opened the innings for the Royals in the run chase. But his poor form with the bat continued as he perished with 11 to his name. Earlier in the game, he had gone wicketless with the ball. He had returned with figures of 0/31 in the four overs that he bowled.
Ajinkya Rahane – 2/10
Ajinkya Rahane had a poor game with the bat. The RR skipper demoted himself to number three in the batting lineup to aid stability to the fragile middle order. The move failed and Rahane was dismissed on 4 by Ravindra Jadeja.
Sanju Samson – 3/10
Sanju Samson seems to have missed his trick big time in the tournament in the second leg. After a sensational start to the season, Samson has been crashing big time in the later half of the league. He scored 21 runs in the game but struggled for 22 deliveries to score those runs.
Prashant Chopra – 2/10
Prashant Chopra is a domestic veteran in the Indian cricket. He got his first chance to show his skills in the IPL. The stage was set for him to become an overnight hero but the batsman failed to deliver. He could only score 8 in the match.
Stuart Binny – 6/10
Stuart Binny played a very handy cameo in the game. Jos Buttler was running out of partners and needed someone to take the pressure off him. Binny provided that with a crucial 17-ball 22 to his name. Earlier in the game, he did not get a chance to bowl.
K Gowtham – 8/10
K Gowtham continued to impress in the season. Gowtham came in at the fag end of the run chase and turned the course of the game in just 4 balls. He smoked 2 sixes during his stay at the crease to bring Rajasthan Royals back in the game. Earlier in the game, he bowled 3 overs to return with 0/28 to his name.
Ankit Sharma – 2/10
Ankit Sharma got his first chance to play in the IPL this year. The spin bowler, however, did not have a major role to play in the game. He bowled just one over and conceded 11 runs with no wickets to show against his name.
Jofra Archer – 7/10
Jofra Archer did not get to face a ball in the game but he did have his say with the ball in the match. Archer provided the first breakthrough for his side by dismissing Ambati Rayudu in the powerplay. Later, he broke the partnership of 86 between Watson and Raina. Towards the end, he was taken away for quite some runs. He finished with figures of 2/42 in the four overs that he bowled.
Jaydev Unadkat – 4/10
Jaydev Unadkat bowled his complete quota of four overs in the game but failed to get a wicket. He looked largely ineffective with the ball in hand. Unadkat returned with figures of 0/34 to his name in the match.
Ish Sodhi – 7.5/10
Ish Sodhi has been a very valuable addition to the Rajasthan Royals camp this season. Sodhi continued his good form with the ball and returned with decent figures of 1/29 in the complete quota of four overs that he bowled. He bagged the big wicket of Suresh Raina in the game.
