The Chennai Super Kings got back to the winning ways with their most recent win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The stage was all set at the MCA Stadium in Pune for the home game of the Super Kings. While the Sunrisers had already qualified for the playoffs, the Super Kings needed a win to match in the same league. And in the game, the Super Kings came up with a complete performance to register a thumping win.

Earlier in the match, the Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Sunrisers Hyderabad lost Alex Hales cheaply and were largely controlled by a magnificent spell by Deepak Chahar. The visitors needed a strong partnership and they got it from their senior players Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson. While Dhawan scored 79 off 49 balls, Williamson finished with 51 off 39 balls to his name. Their efforts, combined with Deepak Hooda’s unbeaten 21, saw the Sunrisers finish with 179/4 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Super Kings got to a sensational start. Their in-form openers, Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson, gave a flying start with a partnership of 134 runs to their name. The partnership was broken when Watson was dismissed on 57 (35). After his dismissal, Rayudu ensured that he stayed till the very end at the wicket. He became the fourth centurion of the season and remained unbeaten on 100 as CSK registered an 8 wicket win.

Here are the Chennai Super Kings player ratings for the match:

Shane Watson – 9/10

Shane Watson has been one of the top performers for the Chennai Super Kings this season. The former Australian all-rounder continued to play well in this game as well. Watson scored a quick 57 off just 35 balls with five fours and three sixes to his name. Batting with Ambati Rayudu, he added 134 runs for the first wicket to set the tone for the run chase.

Ambati Rayudu – 9.5/10

Ambati Rayudu anchored the run chase to perfection. He added 134 runs for the first wicket with Shane Watson. After Watson’s dismissal, he ensured that the run chase does not fall apart. He went on to score his maiden T20 hundred and finished with an unbeaten 100 to his name in just 62 balls. He hit seven fours and seven sixes in the game.

Suresh Raina – 2/10

Suresh arrived at the crease at the fag end of the run chase. The Super Kings wanted someone to play the second fiddle to Ambati Rayudu. Raina was expected to play the role but he failed to do so. Raina perished for just 2 in the game. Earlier in the match, he had taken a decent catch to dismiss Alex Hales.

MS Dhoni – 7/10

MS Dhoni managed to remain unbeaten in the season yet again. He stayed unbeaten on 20 off 14 balls with a six and a four to his name. Dhoni did not mind playing the second fiddle to Ambati Rayudu in the game. With the captaincy hat, he was spot on yet again and totally unpredictable.

Sam Billings – NotAssigned

Sam Billings did not have a major part to play in the game. The English batsman did not get a opportunity to bat in the game with the CSK top order doing all the scoring.

Ravindra Jadeja – 3/10

Ravindra Jadeja was padded up for the entire duration of the Chennai Super Kings run chase. He did not get his chance to wield the willow though. Earlier in the match, Jadeja bowled just two overs and looked largely ineffective. He conceded 24 runs in the two overs that he bowled.

Dwayne Bravo – 4/10

It has been surprising to see that the Chennai Super Kings have shown more faith in their all-rounders when it comes to the bowling. Dwayne Bravo bowled his complete quota of four overs. The veteran campaigner failed to contain the run flow though and ended up giving away 39 runs. He took the big wicket of Shikhar Dhawan to break the marathon stand.

David Willey – 3/10

David Willey retained his place in the side and was expected to play a major role in the bowling department. However, the English pacer did not get his complete quota of overs in the game. Willey bowled two overs in the match and ended up conceding 24 runs. He failed to pick up any wicket in the match.

Harbhajan Singh – 3/10

Harbhajan Singh did not have a major role to play in the game. Considering the fact that Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for SRH, many expected that the offie would be the ideal choice against him. However, Dhoni did not think on the same lines. Harbhajan bowled only two overs and gave away 26 runs.

Deepak Chahar – 9/10

Deepak Chahar was certainly the most impressive bowler for the Chennai Super Kings in the match. Chahar made a comeback in the match and proved to be a quality performer yet again. He dismissed Alex Hales eearly in the game. He finished with figures of 1/16 in the four overs that he bowled.

Shardul Thakur – 8/10

Shardul Thakur had a much improved outing in the match. In the ongoing edition of the IPL, the Mumbai pacer has been guilty of giving away a little too many runs with the ball. In this game, he only gave away 32 runs in the four overs that he bowled. He accounted for the wickets of Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey.
