The excitement in Chennai for CSK’s homecoming in the context of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was at another level last evening and the kind of game it turned out to be, that excitement was totally worth it. While the hosts looked behind for a major fraction of the match, they were able to somehow pull it back in their favour once again and ended up adding two more points to their tally.

It was not a typical abrasive Chepauk wicket and was pretty flat and KKR, after being inserted by MS Dhoni, put a huge score on the board, thanks to some mind-boggling power hitting by the Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell. Even with the dew and some loopholes in KKR’s bowling attack, it looked a tall order for CSK chasing a target of 203, especially when they couldn’t get those crucial boundaries away in the middle overs after a brisk start.

However the England right-hander Sam Billings who was picked in the XI at the place of his countrymen Mark Wood wreaked havoc with the bat all of a sudden as he put some wonderful piece of stroke-play on display towards the end and got CSK well and truly within the winning range before losing his wicket in the penultimate over of the game.

It was still fairly difficult though after Billings’ wicket as there were 16 runs still needed off 6 balls, but Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja made sure the job was done as both of them hit a six each off Vinay Kumar’s last over and dragged CSK over the line in what was another humdinger of a game in IPL 11.

The Twitterati again had a lot of fun the game and while Russell and Billings were obviously the talking points for their awesome performances, Vinay Kumar and Shardul Thakur were trolled brutally for their repetitive poor bowling.

The Twitterati also slammed the KKR management for not preferring the young Kamlesh Nagarkoti over the veteran Vinay, who over the years has not proved to be a great success in the T20 format of the game.
