The Eliminator at Eden Gardens featured home team Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. While the game had a good number of twists and turns, it was the visitors who fell short by 25 runs. With this, the Rajasthan franchise was eliminated from the tournament.

Put to bat first, the Kolkata Knight Riders weren’t at a good position. They were reduced to 51/4 at the end of eight overs. However, that’s when the skipper Dinesh Karthik rose to the occasion with a splendid half-century. Shubhman Gill also batted well as they crossed the 100 run mark by 14 overs.

It was then the Andre Russell show as he scored a quickfire 49(25)*, an innings which had five maximums. The Kolkata Knight Riders managed to post a total of 169/7. The likes of Jofra Archer, Krishnappa Gowtham and Ben Laughlin all got a couple of wickets each.

Rajasthan Stutters in run-chase

In response, the Rajasthan Royals were off to a splendid start. With 87/1 in their first 10 overs, it felt that the visitors had got this in their bag. However, the duo of Rahane and Samson slowed down as the innings proceeded. Just 40 runs were scored in the next seven overs with six of them bowled by the spinners.

Both ended up wasting too many balls which eventually ended up costing the game. Mentor Shane Warne was quite displeased with the performance. Back in Australia, he expressed his disappointment on Twitter and felt that it was their game to win. He further congratulated the squad for a good campaign.

What a disappointing end this is, wasted to many balls & didn’t take the game on in the middle. That game was there to win & the boys should have got over the line ! Very proud of the entire squad though as they tried their best ! Just hurts as that’s a game we should have won !
