The Sunrisers of Hyderabad has had a dream start to their IPL campaign this season. Their bowlers fired all guns as they comfortably defeated the Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets. Moreover, they’ve got one of the most balanced sides in IPL. With so much talent in their ranks, it is really tough for the management to accommodate all of them in the eleven. Many high-profile players will have to be benched for a majority of the season as it usually is in the IPL.

Left-arm spinner Mehdi Hasan said that he was not worried about his selection in the team. Mehdi has been one of the most consistent performers for Hyderabad in the last domestic season. He was picked by the franchise as a result and it seems that the youngster is also working on a ‘mystery ball’.

Murali to guide Mehdi

Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is the bowling coach of the SRH. Murali will be a great inspiration for the young spinners and will guide them to new levels. He is also helping Mehdi to develop a ‘mystery ball’. He spoke during a media interaction on Tuesday and stated that the SRH has a very strong bench strength.

“I wanted to learn that one ball from Murali sir. So I am trying to learn many new variations. I am not worried about my selection in the playing eleven. The bench strength is stronger. I am very positive and I am enjoying the atmosphere in the team. I am doing my process right, even when I am not playing. For, whenever I get a chance, I will be ready for that,” he said.

Mehdi also mentioned that he is working with Shakib and Rashid to improve upon his bowling. “They are big spinners. I am staying very positive. The team winning is more important, not really bothered about my opportunities. I am even talking to these two spinners on how to improve my bowling,” the 28-year-old spinner added.

Bharat Arun is an inspiration

It is also interesting to note that Hasan switched to spin from pace due to an injury. He was advised by the then Hyderabad captain Arshad Ayub to bowl spin. He also added that he loves his team to do well, putting behind his personal goals and heaped praise on Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun.

“I must mention here the kind of influence of Bharat Arun Sir (former Hyderabad Ranji coach) had on me during his stint. He was absolutely positive, the inputs put into us, the way he told us to believe in ourselves, made us realise that sky is the limit. The whole thinking has changed a lot for good under him,” Mehdi signed off.
