IPL 2018: Stephen Fleming gives clarity on his statement

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are currently placed in the second position of the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), below the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). They have won four out of their five matches and have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament. Prior to the league, they picked a bunch of aged cricketers which was ridiculed by the people across the country.

However, they have shown their calibre and have turned out be a brute force. Stephen Fleming, their head coach, has been phenomenal for the franchise. Recently, in a press conference yesterday, he talked about their ambitions and mentioned winning as a priority rather than developing youngsters, which might have been misinterpreted. However, the former Kiwi cricketer, has taken to Twitter and shared a clarification on the comment.He wrote

“Should clarify-over the years identifying young talent and giving them a chance on the big stage has been a key part of CSK and the IPL. Watching young players take that chance and excel is one of the joys of the job. Sorry my comment in the press yesterday didn’t reflect that”

The Chennai franchise hasn’t had much to cheer in the last couple of years as they served a two-year suspension following their involvement in match-fixing scandals. However, they forayed back into the league with a thumping victory against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the opening game of this seasons’ IPL. Thereafter they played against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

However, the Cauvery Water Dispute (CWD) turned out to be a detriment in their campaign and their home matches were shifted to the MCA Stadium in Pune where they have already played a game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Having got off to an impressive start, CSK would be hoping to secure a berth in the playoffs at the earliest.
