The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was one of the most competitive and followed seasons in the history of the tournament. Fittingly, one of the comeback franchises, Chennai Super Kings, went on to win the coveted title as they defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final on May 27. Social Media has been one of the best mediums to express as the Twitter was flooded in with special messages from the cricketers, celebrities and the fans out of which only a few stood out during the course of the IPL this year.
Moreover, the mega-finale of the cash-rich T20 league saw more than 1 Million tweets from the followers of the game which was again a record. This season was one of the best as all the franchises had revamped their teams in the auction in January and had built a decent squad. But the Men in Yellow, who were taunted as the aged side at the start, overpowered all of them and lifted the title for the third time.
The IPL witnessed a lot of game-changing moments as it left many in awe of the cricketers who were involved in the action. When the magical moments of the tournament are considered, how can one miss the catch from AB de Villiers which he took at the Chinnaswamy Stadium against the SRH? The ball smashed by Alex Hales was racing through the air and was set to settle down in the crowd. But the Superman from South Africa had different ideas who timed his jump amazingly at deep mid-wicket and grabbed the catch.
Another moment was the football-style jersey exchange between Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul after the latter’s heroic knock went in vain courtesy of the middle-order botching up the tall chase. However, the best moment came when the Men in Yellow lifted the title and celebrated in a unique way by singing a song. The likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and their official Twitter handle of CSK tweeted about these aforementioned events which were regarded as the iconic tweets according to Inside Sport.
