The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) promises to be a bigger affair than all the previous editions of the tournament. All teams tried to get their plans right on the paper during the recently concluded auctions. Among the lot, the Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to grab a lot of eyeballs. Over the years, team RCB has boasted of big names in their batting lineup.
However, they have always struggled in their bowling department. Certainly, the Royal Challengers Bangalore think tank was aware of this fact. They left no stone unturned in fixing this issue at the auctions and roped in some quality bowlers on their roster. Also, they have beefed up the youth quotient in their lineup as well.
The RCB squad looks fit and young. In Virat Kohli, they have a very able leader. The team would fancy their chances to claim their maiden title this year. While the talks are going around about the big names like Brendon McCullum and AB de Villiers, it is worth noting that the unknown stars are there to make a name for themselves too.
Here are the unknown stars to watch out for in RCB squad:
1. Kulwant Khejroliya
Young Delhi left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya has had a fairy tale story in his cricket career. He gave up his job to pursue his dream of playing cricket. In a big to do so, he trained under a renowned coach in Delhi and soon made it to his good books. Khejroliya has the height advantage to his name and is renowned to cause trouble to batsmen with his angle and height.
During the Ranji Trophy this year, his bouncers rattled some of the opposition batsmen. He scalped 14 wickets in 10 games in 2018 Mushtaq Ali tournament this year and conceded runs at only 6.56. Last season, he was with the Mumbai Indians but did not get a game.
2. Pavan Deshpande
Ever since making his First Class debut for Karnataka in the 2016-17 domestic season, Pavan Deshpande has only grown in stature as a player in the Karnataka cricket circle. Deshpande is a left-handed batsman and a very useful off-break bowler.
Deshpande can be effectively used as a floater in the middle order. He could play the role that Kedar Jadhav was expected to play for the RCB team during the previous edition of the tournament. He has the reputation of brining the big hits when needed and he has shown the same in the Karnataka Premier League. He played for the Blasters in the KPL 2017.
3. Aniruddha Joshi
Aniruddha Joshi has been a prolific performer in the Karnataka cricket circle for quite some time now. He is an all-rounder by trade and is well known for his big hitting ability. He can contribute to the team’s cause with his off-spin as well.
With Yuzvendra Chahal in the lineup as the leg spin, a player like Joshi can certainly add more variety to the team lineup of the RCB. He recorded scores of 40* (19), 73* (45) and 19* (10) in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018. The score of 73 had come when his side were in dread troubles and at the verge recording their lowest total ever.
