The upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) made the headlines a bit too earlier this year, mostly owing to the expected change in its starting date. However, one of the topmost T20 leagues in the world might not be the same this time around, as some of the star overseas players are expected to skip the tournament to manage the workload before heading to World Cup 2019.

That, in no way makes it an unattractive event. The cricket enthusiasts across the globe have already revealed their excitement and jest for the league. Meanwhile, the auction for the twelfth edition is going to be held at Jaipur on December 18. Recently, IPL governing body released the list of 346 cricketers who will undergo the hammer.

The list features some exciting names both from India and overseas but a few known names might fail to attract bidders, largely due to their whopping base price.

Here we bring you three such players who might go unsold:

1. Lasith Malinga

Remember those toe-crushers? If you do, how could you forget the name – Lasith Malinga– the ace Sri Lanka cricketer? The 35-year-old had to stay away from the cricket field for over a year after facing an injury in September 2017. He though made a comeback a few months back and has entered IPL auction with the huge base price of 2 crores.

The right-arm pacer was part of Mumbai Indians coaching staff last season and he is likely to go unsold this time around. It’s never easy for the players of his age who lack the proper fitness, to get an IPL contract, mostly when having an above par base price. Also, Malinga is nowhere near his prime despite the fact that he bowled well during the Asia Cup.

2. Jaydev Unadkat

The surprise package of IPL 2018 auction, Jaydev Unadkat is unlikely to get a bid this time around as the pacer has set his base price at Rs 1.5 crores. He was bought at a massive amount of Rs 11.5 crores by Rajasthan Royals, however, the Saurashtra based cricketer didn’t click for the franchise picking only 11 wickets in the 15 matches.

A poor show in one season always puts you in trouble especially in an event like IPL where a lot is at stake. Despite the fact that franchises like roping in good local fast bowlers, Unadkat could miss out on finding a buyer for unnecessarily keeping such a high base price.

3. Wridhhiman Saha

Not too long ago, Saha was a regular feature behind the wickets for India in Tests, but an injury earlier this year cost him the place in the team. The Bengal born cricketer has often stunned the cricket world with his heroic wicket-keeping skills though he is yet to make a mark with his bat. In shorter format, teams particularly look for wicket-keepers who could equally contribute with the bat.

Saha being out of the scene and not having a very good record in IPL recently is also expected to go unsold at the auction. Featuring in the mega base-price category of Rs 1 crore would make it even tougher for him as franchises, who are with the limited salary cap, would easily acquire services of talented uncapped players at this amount.
