Former West Indian great Brian Lara has joined the Select Dugout on Star Sports Select 1/HD for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, adding to its appeal. The presence of Lara, one of the greatest batsmen of the game, in the commentary team is set to make the viewers’ experience richer as he will come up with his sharp understanding and analysis of matches during the tournament.
Star Sports has curated #SelectDugout comprising some of the game’s best minds and the illustrious panel includes a number of former captains, players and coaches like Anil Kumble, Dean Jones, Mike Hesson, Nasser Hussain, Brad Hogg, Damien Fleming, Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pietersen and others. The galaxy of former cricket stars is also a part of the world feed commentary.
According to a report in InsideSport, Star has also tied up officially with Twitter for #SelectDugout. Under this tie-up, the fans who tweet @StarSportsIndia using the hashtag #SelectDugout will receive personalized video responses from the select panel of expert commentators. Twitter is also giving the fans a unique opportunity to engage with the Star Sports Select Dugout team directly throughout the season.
Lara praised IPL for generating interests among youngsters in Windies
Lara, who praised the IPL for generating interests about the game among the kids in the West Indies and giving a platform for talented youngsters to showcase their skills, spoke about the Windies’ chances in the upcoming ICC World Cup. He said the Windies have a lot of match-winners in their side but will need consistency to do well in the mega event. He talked about the likes of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Chris Gayle and others who are highly sought after in T20 tournaments across the world.
Lara scored over 22,000 runs in international cricket with 53 hundreds. He holds the record of scoring the highest individual score in Tests (400 not out) which he reclaimed from Australian Matthew Hayden, who had eclipsed his earlier highest score of 375. Lara led the Windies in two World Cups (1999 and 2007) but failed to take them to the semi-final once.
