Rishabh Pant recently was encountered with a body blow as he was left out of the 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. Dinesh Karthik pipped him as MS Dhoni’s backup wicketkeeper for the mega event in England and Wales. The 21-year-old is currently plying his trade for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

In eight matches, the Uttarakhand-born southpaw has notched 245 runs at an average of 35 with a top score of 78 not out in the Capital’s first match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He has racked up those runs at a strike-rate of 161.18.

In the meantime, the Uttarakhand-born southpaw has drawn praises from DC teammate Colin Munro, who played his first match this season against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and impressed immediately with a knock of 40 from 24 deliveries with four fours and three sixes.

“Look at someone like Rishabh, he knows his game so well. Whether he is going to bat at number 4, 5 or 6, he’s plays the same way and that’s okay, we need those players in the T20 format to just go out there and try to take the bull by the horns from ball one,” Munro was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

Munro happy with young guns in the Capitals

Apart from, Pant, the Capitals have quite a few other youngsters, including the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw, both of whom have been pretty decent in the opportunities they have gotten. Iyer is also the skipper of the franchise. Munro also sounded delighted with them being fearless and clear in their approach.

“Just seeing the young guys in our team coming in and playing with absolute freedom, no fear and with clarity in the way they go on about their cricket is great. They know their strengths and weaknesses,” the New Zealand left-handed batsman mentioned.

“The beauty of our team is that we have some really experienced international players and Indian players like Shikhar (Dhawan) and Axar (Patel) alongside youngsters and the boys on the bench are working hard as well,” Munro added.
