MS Dhoni is one of the reasons why the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has garnered a number of laurels in their illustrious journey ever since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Even this season, the 37-year-old wicketkeeper delivered and took his team to the Final against the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

He was stupendous as a leader, a keeper and also a batsman. However, the Final didn’t turn out to be a memorable one for Dhoni as his team lost by one run. Moreover, he could only score two off eight balls. He came to bat with CSK needing 77 runs off 57 balls, but he strained to find the gaps. In the 13th over, Dhoni tried to steal an over-throw and that led to his dismissal.

MS Dhoni gets run out at a crucial stage

Shane Watson, who scored 80 runs, pulled one off Hardik Pandya and an awry throw from Lasith Malinga made Dhoni go for the extra run. To his misfortune, Ishan Kishan churned out a direct hit and ignited the stumps. The third umpire had a rather tough time thereafter. He had a close look at the dismissal from various angles, adding to more confusion.

One angle showed that Dhoni just made the ground in the nick of time. But another angle revealed that MSD’s bat was outside when the bails came off. The umpire had a crucial decision to make as Dhoni is someone, who doesn’t panic in crunch scenarios. In the end, after all the speculations, the giant screen displayed ‘OUT’ and the CSK skipper had to make the long walk-back.

In the meantime, James Neesham, the New Zealand all-rounder, had an opinion about the dismissal. While he mentioned that he admires Dhoni and his supporters, he was a tad taken aback by the fans’ verdict on the dismissal. The Black Cap uploaded a picture of the run-out where Dhoni can be seen trying to slide his bat.

Furthermore, he captioned the picture and wrote, “I love how passionate some fans are about our sport. I have huge respect for MS but how anyone could see the below photo and say it’s not out truly astounds me,”
