The Mumbai Indians registered a clinical win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their recent encounter in Hyderabad. Beating the Orange Army at their own den is always a tough task to accomplish. But the Men in Blue managed to do so with quite some ease. Things certainly did not look bright for the visitors at the halfway stage of the game. However, a strong bowling performance, led by the debutant Alzarri Joseph helped MI eke out an important win.

The venue at Hyderabad has always been known as a low scoring venue. On most occasions, it has been the home side that has defended low totals at the venue. This time around, they were at the receiving end. SRH won the toss and opted to field first. MI had a poor start to the innings that could never really get going at any stage. The wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Had their not been a certain cameo from Kieron Pollard, MI would have stared at a total of about 110. Pollard’s cameo at the end helped his side post 136/7 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, all eyes were on the in-form opening pair of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow. The openers failed today and the innings crashed big time. Alzarri Joseph ripped apart the SRH batting lineup to finish with a six-wicket haul in the match. His bowling effort saw Sunrisers bundle out for just 96 and MI registered their third win of the season. For the records, Alzarri registered the best IPL figures for any bowler in the history – 6/12.

Here are the MI Player Ratings for the match:

Quinton de Kock – 3/10

Quinton de Kock had a poor game with the bat. He showed some promise with the way he started off his innings in the match. He hit a six and a four first up and that set the hopes high. However, things could not get going for him and all he could manage to score in the match was 19 runs.

Rohit Sharma – 4/10

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is not having the best of times in the 2019 edition of the IPL. His poor run of form with the bat continued in this game too. Rohit struggled against the new ball bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Nabi. He faced 14 deliveries and managed to add only 11 runs to the team total. His captaincy, though, deserves some marks as he was phenomenal with his timely bowling changes.

Suryakumar Yadav – 2/10

Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the consistent players for the MI camp in the middle order. In this match, his story was no different from other MI players. He struggled to get going and could muster just 7 runs during his short 8-ball stay. He was trapped lbw by Sandeep Sharma in the powerplay itself.

Ishan Kishan – 2/10

Ishan Kishan played his first match of this season. The youngster did not have a great time at the crease though. The pitch looked like a difficult one, and his struggle during his stay at the crease was quite evident. Ishan played out 21 deliveries for his 17 runs and could only hit a couple of fours. He would certainly see this match as a chance gone begging.

Krunal Pandya – 6/10

Krunal had a terrible time with the bat in hand. He scored only 6 off the 13 balls that he played in this match. The senior Pandya ensured that he made amends with the ball in hand though. He bowled a couple of very tight overs, giving away only 9 runs. He failed to pick up any wicket though.

Hardik Pandya – 2/10

Things looked grim for the Mumbai Indians when half the side had walked back to the pavilion with just 65 runs on the board. The MI fans hoped that Hardik Pandya turns out to be their saviour yet again. They wanted to see him hit a few maximums and bail out the team from troubled waters. Pandya, however, could only hit one six and muster a total of 14 runs in the match. With the ball, he bowled just one over, conceding 7 runs.

Kieron Pollard – 9/10

The wickets fell like nine pins for the visitors in the match. They looked at a score somewhere around the 100-110 run mark. Kieron Pollard had other plans though. The Caribbean stars are certainly lighting up the IPL. Pollard hit an unbeaten 46 off just 26 balls to ensure a respectable total for his side. His innings included 4 sixes and a couple of fours. He was truly impressive with his power hitting in the match.

Rahul Chahar – 8/10

Rahul Chahar had to sit out for the entire season last year. This year, when his chance has come, he is proving that he can be very good on his day. Chahar had a good day at the office and he returned with the figures of 2/21 in his four overs. He provided the first breakthrough for MI when he dismissed the dangerman, Jonny Bairstow. Later in the match, he took another big wicket of Yusuf Pathan.

Alzarri Joseph – 10/10

It is not an everyday sight to see a player get a perfect score in the ratings card. Alzarri Joseph managed to be one of those very few getting it. The tall Windies pacer made his IPL debut in the match and perhaps had the dream debut anyone could thing of. He finished with absolutely magnificent figures of 6/12 in the 3.4 overs that he bowled. He started off by cleaning up David Warner and then accounted for the wicket of Vijay Shankar. The middle-order looked too bleak to survive Alzarri’s attack and the pacer ruled the roost in the match.

Jason Behrendorff – 7/10

Jason Behrendorff has been a good addition to the MI camp. The lanky Australian pacer has been consistent with his line and lengths. He continued his good bowling form in this match as well. He bowled his complete quota of four overs and conceded just 28 runs. He took the wicket of Manish Pandey in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10

Well, you don’t usually see Jasprit Bumrah having an off day with the ball. On a day when almost every bowler had a great time on the field, Bumrah had a good one too. He bowled just 3 overs in the match but ensured to be economical. He conceded just 16 runs and took the wicket of Mohammad Nabi in the final overs of the game to end all hopes of the Orange Army.
