The 24th match of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) will see two in-form sides – Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)- taking on each other in a mouth-watering clash at the Wankhede Stadium. After an indifferent start to their seasons, both Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have found their groove. Punjab have won three games while Mumbai Indians have thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (CSK) in their previous two outings.
In their last outing, Kings XI Punjab made light work of Sunrisers, the last year’s finalists. Bowling first, the Sunrisers did remarkably well to contain the likes of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner to restrict the Hyderabad-based outfit to just 150 for 4.Warner had stayed till the end but the Kings XI bowled so well he could only manage 70 from 62 balls. KL Rahul then scored an unbeaten 71 to guide the team home.
Mumbai Indians also beat Sunrisers in their previous outing and had inflicted even more humiliation over Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Co. Asked to bat first, Mumbai could only manage 136 runs. It looked like a cakewalk for the in-form Sunrisers. However, debutant Alzarri Joseph blew them away by bowling the best spell in the history of the IPL. The 22-year old, signed as a replacement of Adam Milne, picked up 6 for just 12 runs as MI bowled out Sunrisers for just 96.
Kings XI have already beaten Mumbai once this season and are slight favourites. Moreover, Rohit Sharma is doubtful for the clash after picking up a thigh injury during the training session on Tuesday. Mumbai Indians are yet to give an official update on the injury but it looked serious. The three-time champions, however, are boosted by the return of their veteran pacer Lasith Malinga who was in Sri Lanka for the domestic one-dayers. However, after Alzarri’s performance, Malinga’s place in the MI playing eleven is not assured.
How will be the weather:
One can expect a full game of thrilling cricket as there is no prediction of rainfall or any other natural phenomena which can interrupt the game. According to AccuWeather, Mumbai is unlikely to receive any rain today. The temperature will hover between 30 to 28-degree Celsius during the game. The weather report also claims that there will be 31% cloud coverage while the humidity will be in the range of 65-80%.
