High-flying Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be looking to take another giant step towards the playoffs when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens. With six wins from the first seven games, the Super Kings are almost in the playoffs and a win in the upcoming fixture will further boost their chances of progressing ahead of the group stage. The Knight Riders, on the other hand, will be desperate to turn their campaign around after suffering two back-to-back defeats.
In their previous encounter, the Super Kings had beaten Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a thrilling last-ball finish. The game, which was marred by MS Dhoni’s confrontation with the umpires, ended with Mitchell Santner hitting a last ball six to power the Super Kings to a win. Chasing 152, the CSK were reeling at 24 for 4 before Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu struck fifties to revive the chase. The equation was finally down to 18 runs from the final over and the visiting team did manage to score the required runs.
The Knight Riders, however, enter the game low on confidence. In their last outing, they lost to Delhi Capitals that too at home which is considered their fortress. The fact that it was Delhi’s first win at the Eden Gardens since 2012 pretty much tells just how dominating Knight Riders have been at their home. On a belter of a track, the Knights scored 177 for 4 thanks to fifty from Shubman Gill and another customary final flourish from Andre Russell (45 off 21). In reply, Delhi rode on Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 97 to chase down the total with more than an over remaining.
No surprises then that the Super Kings will be the firm favourites to win the upcoming contest. However, they should guard against complacency against a team which knows how to deliver in crunch games especially at home. Moreover, the CSK will be well aware of the thumping defeat they had suffered last season in Kolkata.
How will be the weather:
According to AccuWeather, there are no predictions of rain at all which means one can enjoy a full game. The temperature will hover between 30-27 degree Celsius during the game. However, the humidity will make for an uncomfortable experience as it will be around 88% when the game will be played. There will be clouds all over during the game with the weather report predicting a 31% of cloud cover.
