Wow! What a thriller it was! Mumbai Indians (MI) have qualified for the playoffs with a superb win in the super over against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Jasprit Bumrah bowled a classy over to restrict the visitors for just eight runs and then Hardik Pandya’s six off the first ball just killed the game. However, one should give the credit to Manish Pandey who tied the game with a last ball six and stayed unbeaten on 71 off just 47 balls.

Wriddhiman Saha and Martin Guptill got the team off to a flyer. SRH crossed the 50-run mark within the powerplay. But both of them were dismissed soon and MI clawed back into the game. Kane Williamson was trapped in front of the stumps by Krunal Pandya and at 65/3, things looked tough for the Orange Army. Manish Pandey had got to a start and he kept on rotating the strike then with Vijay Shankar.

The duo then added 33 runs for the fourth wicket and Shankar got out with a needless shot in the air. Abhishek Sharma was promoted but even he couldn’t do much to bring Mohammad Nabi in the middle. Pandey got to his half-century soon after that and they kept SRH just in the game.

Rohit Sharma kept three out of the last four overs for Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah. The duo bowled exceptionally well to leave 17 runs for Hardik Pandya to defend in the final over. After bowling a couple of good deliveries, Hardik lost himself somehow and with seven needed off the final ball, he conceded six to Pandey as the game unexpectedly, thrillingly went into the super over.

But Pandey’s heroics went in vain as Mumbai proved to be good in the super over and then snatched victory eventually to qualify for the playoffs.

MI crawl to 162

MI opted to bat first after winning the toss earlier in the day. Rohit Sharma got off to a smooth start hitting some crisp boundaries. But Khaleel Ahmed sent him back with a well-directed short ball. With Evin Lewis in the hut, Surykumar Yadav was surprisingly promoted and he churned some quick runs. However, he was unlucky to get out to a very good shot in the deep covers.

Lewis was literally wasted at number four. While he scored only one run, Quinton de Kock scraped his way through the whole innings. But he made sure that he didn’t throw his wicket away. De Kock played a key knock for his team and remained unbeaten till the end on 69 off 58 balls. Other batsmen couldn’t do much even as Hardik Pandya entertained for a bit scoring 18 runs off 10 balls.

MI crawled to 162 runs for the loss of five wickets and at that stage, the score looked below par. The game went right down to the wire then but Bumrah was too good for the visitors as they qualified for the playoffs.
