Mumbai Indians (MI) made a rather lacklustre start to their edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL) with a defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC). However, the team, captained by Rohit Sharma, managed to brush aside Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) yesterday by six runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to open their account in the T20 tournament. Luck also smiled on them after the umpires failed to spot a no-ball.
MI’s next match is against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Albeit, the Mumbai-based franchise has lost three games at the venue, the last of them came way back in 2011. Rohit’s men have won four matches in a row at this ground. On the contrary, the Kings slumped to a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens and they would be desperate to stage a comeback.
Pitch and Conditions
The track in Mohali has always favoured the team, batting second. Hence, the teams may opt to field first after winning the toss. Dew is likely to play a part and is expected to make things tough for the bowlers.
Team Combination
Kings XI Punjab
KL Rahul would want to make amends after a couple of failures and he would be opening with Chris Gayle. Mayank Agarwal would bat at number three with Sarfaraz Khan at four. The onus would also be on David Miller and Mandeep Singh. Ankit Rajpoot is likely to replace Varun Chakravarthy. Rajpoot will partner Andrew Tye and Shami in the fast bowling department. Ashwin is the lone spinner.
Probable XI
KL Rahul (WK), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, Mandeep Singh, Hardus Viljoen, Ravi Ashwin (C), Ankit Rajpoot, Mohammed Shami, Andrew Tye
Mumbai Indians
MI are likely to open with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Yuvraj Singh need to step up as well. Kieron Pollard has to do well in the middle order. Krunal and Hardik Pandya are crucial elements of the team. The team would again be looking up to Jasprit Bumrah to produce a decent spell. Mayank Markande is likely to retain his position after the good performance.
Probable XI
Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mayank Markande, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah
