IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians’ newest acquisition Beuran Hendricks touches down in Mumbai

Mumbai Indians welcomed their newest acquisition in South Africa’s left-arm pacer Beuran Hendricks as he touched down in Mumbai to join the team for the remaining of their IPL 2019 tournament. Hendricks has been called in to replace West Indies’ pacer Alzarri Joseph, who has returned home after an injured shoulder.

Joseph had initially brought in as replacement himself. After New Zealand’s Adam Milne was pulled out of his commitment to MI owing to a heel injury. Joseph made an immediate impact for the Rohit Sharma team, by picking an IPL record bowling haul of 6/12 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on his debut match, helping the team defend 136 runs and bowling out SRH for just 96.

However, Joseph was brought back for MI’s next match against Rajasthan Royals. He conceded 53 runs in 3 overs and after an unsuccessful dive to save the boundary he dislocated his shoulder. This brought an end to his IPL journey.

Hendricks joins the Mumbai Indians team

MI was allowed to bring in a replacement for Joseph as he was injured before the second phase of the tournament began and hence signed South African Beuran Hendricks, who recently played against Pakistan. Hendricks, the 28-year-old, has played 64 T20s, picking up 89 wickets at an average of just over 20. His best bowling figures have been 6/29 and he has shone for teams like Cape Cobras and Western Province. He has also played two ODIs and 10 T20Is for South Africa.

He also has experience of playing in IPL before, as he turned out for Kings XI Punjab franchise for two IPL seasons in 2014 and 2015 season, picking 9 wickets in 7 matches with the best bowling figures of 3/36.

Jason Behrendorff, who is part of the Australian World Cup squad, leaves for the preparatory camp later this month; Hendricks, will prove to be an apt replacement. Mumbai Indians recently shared a video of Hendricks arriving in Mumbai and checking into the team hotel.
