The Mumbai Indians (MI) are harbouring a lot of hope over Yuvraj Singh, their latest acquisition for the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting March 23. The three-time champions led by Rohit Sharma will seek yet another odd-year title this season and in their mission, Yuvraj will be a key member even though the dashing talent is approaching the twilight of an illustrious career.

Yuvraj, the man of the series of the 2011 World Cup played at home, had a poor run in IPL 2018 for Kings XI Punjab (65 runs in eight matches at an average of less than 11) and was released by his home-based franchise. The cricketer, who was one of the top price fetchers even a few seasons before at IPL auctions, went almost unsold before MI bought him at the last moment along with Sri Lankan veteran Lasith Malinga. Even though Yuvraj was bought for his base price, MI never fell short of displaying their high regard for the man who has over 11,000 runs in international cricket.

Mumbai Indians tweets Yuvraj’s jersey for IPL 2019

On Tuesday, MI came up with their special affection for the senior batting all-rounder once again by tweeting a new MI jersey with number 12 printed on its back. ‘12’ is the number Yuvraj wears and he sported it during the World Cup in 2011 as well. MI’s new kit was officially launched in February and a video was released showing some of the top faces of the team, including Rohit and all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Yuvraj, who will be playing for his sixth franchise in the IPL this edition, is currently playing for Punjab in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament though he hasn’t come up with enough good scores in the four matches that he has played for.

The southpaw, however, is not short of excitement ahead of his upcoming stint with MI and said he wanted to play in a way that would reduce the pressure from the skipper Rohit. MI will play their first game of IPL 2019 against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 24.
