It gave scary moments to not just the Mumbai Indians (MI) but also to millions of Indian fans all across since Jasprit Bumrah is going to be one of India’s trump cards in the upcoming World Cup. The 25-year-old pacer injured his left shoulder during his team’s opening game against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday though the Mumbai Indians (MI) team management later said that he ‘recovered well’. Bumrah’s condition will be examined on Monday again, MI said.

MI lose opening match by 37 runs

Bumrah suffered the injury after falling down while bowling his team’s final over after MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field. Powered by Rishabh Pant’s 27-ball 78 not out, Colin Ingram’s 47 and opener Shikhar Dhawan’s 43, the Capitals posted a big total of 213 for 6 in 20 overs. Bumrah, who came in at first change, did not have a memorable day as he conceded 40 runs in four overs, bagging just the wicket of Axar Patel.

In response, the home team was all out for 176 with veteran Yuvraj Singh top scoring with 53 from 35 balls. Krunal Pandya scored 32 in 15 balls but the duo’s efforts were not enough to see their side home. Bumrah did not bat because of his injury. Bumrah’s injury saw MI physiotherapist Nitin Patel coming to his aid and then the cricketer was seen walking back to the dugout in a lot of discomfort and it was certainly not a piece of good news for the national team which will be banking heavily on his service in the WC.

India coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his apprehension over key players’ receiving injuries ahead of the mega tournament time and again and Sunday’s development will keep him worried for sure. Bumrah was seen clutching his left shoulder after diving to save a run in the final over of the Capitals’ innings.

MI will be keen to leave behind the 37-run loss and return to the winning ways in the next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru on March 28.
